A local bulletin blends national population figures with community notices. Among health updates, hospital stays, birthdays, anniversaries, and upcoming club events fill a dense page of social items.
Common Pleas Judges Adrian Miller and Windsor E. Kellogg overruled a request to return the Chippewa Watershed appraisal to Muskingum Conservancy District for reappraisal. They scheduled hearings for Jan 30 and 31 at 9 p.m. on exceptions to benefits and damages, following extensive objections in a dispute by 117 residents supported by district engineer H. A. Hoffman.
Rittman Board of Education will meet Wednesday January 29 to approve the school budget for 1964 65 tentatively set at 633279 up more than eight percent over last year. The increase mainly funds new teachers due to enrollment rising to 1583 pupils from 1481 in 1962 with final board approval by March.
The Parent Teachers Association at RHS and the Chorus group donated 200 dollars to the fund for a new choir tobe. They bought a Childcraft Encyclopedia for West Hill and a film for First Street School. Fifty members attended a Thursday meeting and viewed Immunizations by Dr Cahit Chorba. PTA will mail measles vaccine booklets to students’ homes.
Rittman recovers from a 10 inch snowstorm and high winds that caused six foot drifts. Street crews led by Charles Casteele worked round the clock to clear Main Street. Merchants praise the street department as residents enjoy a two day holiday and mail carriers resume routes after a day off.
Nomination letters must be mailed to Chamber of Commerce Secretary Mrs Hazel Damron by next Friday. The honored individual will receive a $50 savings bond at the annual Chamber of Commerce dinner on January 30, with tickets now on sale. the letter writer also receives $10.
OK City adopts a $317,183 operating budget, a $32,568 rise from 1963. Major boosts go to street department for a dump truck and oiling program, police for a cruiser, fire for a used tank truck and hose dryer, plus salaries for treasurer and solicitor. Council also reassigns committee roles and discusses Diversion Hall report and two hour parking enforcement.
The Milton Presbyterian drive to raise funds for a new church on North Street runs Sunday from 1 30 to 7 30 with a goal of 100000 dollars. The total project costs are 300000 and the first half yielded 125000. Rev Stanley Weems directs the campaign with General Chairman U J Grant of Rittman and committees led by Lew K Burnett William F Davis Jr Lindsey Williams and others. A 70 member canvass will go door to door as part of a three percent of income for three years plan. The pledge date January 19 will fix the move into the new church.
Milton Township residents will express opinions and ask questions on the proposed zoning ordinance at a public hearing set for Feb 11 at 8 pm in Sterling School. The Zoning Committee approved the ordinance and appointed members to cover all sections so questions can be answered promptly at the Feb 11 meeting.
Elmer Tu2 Maibach of Sterling was named chairman of the 1964 March of Dimes drive in Sterling succeeding his brother Ed who led the drive for four years. Maibach, member of Ellis Leange and VFW, often broadcasts sports on WWST Wooster. He is married with two teen-age children.
Jack Waggamon 38, of 3520 Vanderhee Road Doylestown formerly of Faston died Saturday morning of a heart attack Services were held Tuesday at Barberton ELB Church He worked at Cadillac Tank Plant as a tool grinder He is survived by his wife Massie two sons Dank William and Garri Leon a daughter Betss all at home his parents Mr and Mrs Verden Waggamon a brother James and starcatcher Mrs Caroline Waseamnenell of Easton Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery officiated by Barberton-Reed Balland Reese
The Rittman Savines Bank announces a free city tree map available at the bank by stopping in. Mr and Mrs Willis Ro Ferguson of 357 North Seneca Street are noted. A birth is announced: Toddy Matthew born January 2 at Wadsworth Hospital weighing seven pounds one and a half ounces.
Tuesday services were held for Mrs Mary I King 83 of 99 North Fifth Street who died Saturday evening at Wadsworth Hospital after a brief illness She was wife of Ivan E King assistant superintendent of the Cartona7 Vision of Packaging Corporation of America and a Findlay College trustee A longtime Rittman resident she belonged to Milton Garden Club Rittman Mothers Club and in 1963 served as president of Rittman Garden Club She is survived by her husband a daughter Judy Ann a Findlay College student a brother Karl Kohler three sisters Vida Brown Vera Howell and others Burial took place in Rittman cemetery officiated by Rex O J Thompson
The Bitt min Volunteer Fire Department outlines early plans for Carn Four featuring a new wheel ride lineup and local entertainment. Howard Wasson chairs the committee with Lawrence Cline James Wiss and Don Burkhart assisting as planners. Aiming for a stronger second annual event, the group promises improved attractions and community participation.
Practice for this year's tenth annual show is each Wednesday at 8 pm at Rittman High School. The turnout has been good, but more persons are needed to make this year's show a smash hit. Co-director Mrs. William Davis reports.
Fire Chief Ron Goodhart told City Council the city’s fire department answered 32 calls within Rittman, 12 in Milton Township and 10 in Chippewa Township. Total damages reached $29,083 with 18 firefighters and five auxiliaries responding on average 33 hours for the year.
