In Rittman a special Saturday election approved two propositions for water works and a sanitary sewer system. Water works passed 183 to 68 with six stray votes. sewers won 187 to 68 with three stray votes. Opposition centered on cost, while officials predict tax rates will stay comparable and improvements will boost growth and property protection.
A man identified as Steve Gaheh of Akron died after an apparent fall from the railroad tracks near Rittman. He was found by Cheade Fritz and died en route to hospital after a skull fracture. Investigations point to a fall from the opening over the roadway between Rittman and Wadsworth. About $19 was found on him. He was buried in Knappedne ters after days in undertaking rooms. The Farmers Institute will be held in Rittman on January 22 and 23 under state aid with a program to be announced next week.
Secretary C L Weiser announces Edna May Walters born to Mr and Mrs Louis Walters near Easton is winner of the baby contest after late entry was disqualified. Many local merchants offered prizes. parents must visit shops to claim. Weiser schedules at New Center Shoe Shop in Realty block next to post office.
In a county pole court session Judge Hanes bound over the defendant Platte Sigler to the higher court on a chicken tearing charge after a not guilty plea and a brief presummary hearing. Prosecutor Judge Orr and defense attorney Walter Vetes argued, yielding a tense but orderly proceedings. The judge ruled evidence showed probable cause and set the path to trial, with the defendant remanded for further proceedings.
A newly organized group in the village invites local citizens to join the Rittman Citizens Civic League aimed at promoting righteousness in civic matters and engaging in village affairs. Officers include Chairman GW Chopmeyer and Secretary-Treasurer AS Kelch with multiple committees named for publicity, finance, and advertising.
