J W Burton and A W Burton brothers from Alliance Nebraska were forced to land in a pasture one mile west of Rittman while refueling their open two seater monoplane. The propeller was shattered by a fence post during takeoff and they escaped injury with only minor plane damage. They were en route home from Pennsylvania when the incident occurred.
