Jo Gordon, newly independent at Rittmat's Art and Sign Shop, lands a major contract in Wadsworth for the new Savings and Trust Company building. He will apply gold leaf lettering, signs, showcards, and bulletins. Work began December 26, 1929, and runs into next spring as completion nears.
A Graham Paige sedan driven by Slim Yarman crashed near a curve on the Wadsworth Rittman road Sunday night. Yarman blamed a momentary loss of heat to the head as the cause. the car rolled over, wrecking glass and fenders. Clayton Dohner repairs follow. occupants other than Yarman were injured.
Mr and Mrs Wm Campbell hosted 26 guests at New Year’s dinner at Fifth Street. Attendees included Mr and Mrs Warful Wooster Mr and Mrs Post Jefferson Mr and Mrs Bill Campbell Monroe Mich Mr and Mrs Vernard Warful Springfield Mr and Mrs Ralph Campbell Rittman Mr and Mrs Ralph Rose Wadsworth Mr and Mrs Charles Landis Creston Mr and Mrs Fred West Creston Mr and Mrs Howard Buck Rittman and several children. A merry day with a curious closing line about a stock market gambler and an aviator’s wife.
Pythian Sisters met in Wool Po halt for an officer installation led by Edna Thompson. New officers sworn in include Mable Newburs as ouizer PoC Fas Hall MEC and Edna Thompson as Hall manager, with Thelma Stelver Mooof as Protector and other posts filled. Birthday observances and refreshments followed the afternoon meeting.
Kitts is lined to face heavyweight Joe Roske in Akron’s Miles Royal Theatre main event, if Marsh completes his contract. Manager Wade Ritoman reports Kitts’ side signed, awaiting Marsh, with the bout aiming for three three minute rounds on a major card. Roske, a top heavyweight, would boost Kitts into prominent national exposure if victorious.
Mrs Eugene Hickin remains hospitalized at Fairview after her husband Eugene Hickin, brother of John Hickin, sustained injuries in a Thanksgiving auto accident. He works part time at Guardian Trust Bank Cleve hind, while Beth Hickin attends school and faces the spill’s effects. Complications include abscesses and edema linked to a broken arm, with little improvement over the past days.
John H Fisher reports receiving a card from Joe Gish who stays in Florida with his wife after visiting the Bahamas en route. The note from Clearwater praises Florida as a fisher’s paradise with calm weather and plentiful fish. The Gishes plan a Gulf of Mexico trip costing $2 per deep sea outing and intend to spend winter in Florida before returning to Rittman.
Employees held a bridge card party in the recreation room last Thursday evening using twelve tables. The gentlemen’s prize went to Bob Hickin and the ladies’ prize to Mrs. Ed Newbury.
Bill Guise died Tuesday from heart trouble in his Sterling avenue residence. He was found in bed by neighbor John Koehler after caregivers Mrs Harvey and Miss Wrneman had not arrived. Funeral services set for Friday January 10 at 1 30 PM in the Presbyterian Church with Rev Hendrickson officiating. Burial in Knupp's Cemetery.
Ola Padridae Club hosted its annual guest day at Mia Prank Langenecker’s home on Tuesday. The program featured a two net comedy Aunt Deborah's Luncheon, plus lessons in English and Historic events in Offia. Vocal solo by Mrs Verne Qebhart and Mrs A J Ehert on piano accompanied the afternoon as about two attendees enjoyed refreshments.
The annual meeting of the stock holders elected the same directors as last year including RO V Fredrick DD Ro Lance ER Lance Fraoest McCarnell ET Steiner W HooSwartz A H Thomas W BB Lee and J Young. RV Fredrick is president ER Lance Vo president and J Lee is cashier with strong backing and bank rating cited.
The WC TT will hold a victory meeting commemorating the defeat of liquor traffic sinners on the 18th at the United Brethren church. A special program of songs will be led. Rep Reynolds of Orrville will give the evening address and open with a prayer service.
Otterbein Guild of Sterling served a cover dish dinner for the Rittman United Brethren church members. After the meal the Rittman guild members entertained Sterling attendees with a delightful program on Tuesday evening.
Mrs Settle Toland travels with Mr and Mrs Clem Ault of Creston to Florida by car for a several month stay starting next Monday.
Tragic bus wreck near Burbank claims several lives including student riders from Shreve and Prairie teams. Driver Joe Baker, kin to Sam Baker of Rittman, is among the deceased. Grubb and Lehman families affected as the bus collided with a fast Pennsylvania train en route after a game. Injured girls remain hospitalized as services honor the fallen.
The Church of Christ in Rittman states it has completed payments on two small lots on North Main Street and will move to a new church building once finished The pastor notes the church has about 75 to 90 in weekly Sunday School attendance and a total membership under 100 with campaign success uncertain
Mr Yoder, a farmer west of Rittmar, saw a mysterious white light in the morning sky. The glow lasted about 20 seconds, then faded to darkness, leaving the exact nature of the phenomenon unexplained.
Little Geraldine Brown daughter of Mr and Mrs Harold Brown has been dangerously ill with bronchial trouble but is now recovering gradually. For a few days her life was despaired of though the crisis may be passed. Mrs Brown burned her right hand while preparing hot grease for the child.

The Rittman Village Council discussed moving official quarters from the second floor of the Goffinet block to the old post office building corner of Main and Ohio avenues. A decision was not reached as the matter was tabled for the next regular meeting.
The Village of Rittman held the first session of its new council and mayor Frank Bo Hanen after November election. New members Clyde Carson B G Hamilton Warren Hardgrove were sworn in along with re elected Clerk Glen A Zoigler. Existing fire and water departments remain unchanged.
A financial summary issued Wednesday covers last year. It lists 46 criminal cases 2601.60 in fines and costs 16 fire calls 705 building losses 333 content losses 702 in payroll. Officials commend Marshal Mills and Rittman officials for the superior showing.
Sam Metovia of 42 Front Street was fined 100 dollars and costs for illegal possession of intoxicating liquor. The fine was imposed by Mayor Frank B Hanes after he was apprehended by Marshal Ed Mills on Tuesday January 7.
