The First Baptist Church Branigan Hal led by Pastor W F Echols lists Sunday School at 10:00 a.m. with Sid ney Trogdon as superintendent, services at 7:30 p.m., junior and midweek activities, and a 7:45 a.m. radio broadcast on WAKR Akron. Rev Sim H Martin will speak during a Wednesday night program paired with a film on "The Man that Forgot God." Special invitations extended.
St. Anne's Catholic Church announces Sunday Mass at 8 a.m. and High Mass at 10 a.m., led by Father John T. Farrell. Parishioners are invited to attend these services.
The Blood Bank returns to Wooster next Monday and Tuesday January 16 and 17 from 1 to 5 pm to collect blood due to flu and sickness. Those who have had the flu must wait a month to donate again. Doc Snyder a restaurant proprietor treated the high school football squad and coaches A. J. Tuccinardi and Robert W. Blunt to a turkey dinner on New Year’s Eve. Sam Masi of Ma High spoke on the value of food training. Each player received a lapel pennant pendant football.
Clarence Kindig and Berdean Shiffer finally met in England after months of efforts to arrange a Rittman reunion. The pair had been pursuing the gathering for the town’s former residents.
The Diana Theatre failed to show Top Man on New Year’s Day after the film went missing in transit from Toledo to Cleveland. Manager C L White rescheduled with Ol Sen and Johnson’s Crazy House for holiday crowds and promises Top Man on January 30 and 31.
The school board hosts a voluntary recreation program at Rittman High School gym with Lions support. Six men and ten boys attended the initial Monday night session in the auditorium, and organizers expect more at the next 7:30 pm meeting on January 10. Churches and service clubs are urged to form volleyball and basketball teams and join future sessions.
The Press reports nine more Rittman area service members have arrived overseas, bringing the community total serving abroad to over 130. The names and addresses include Coach Ashton Hall in England and Privates Roland Chenal and Germain Chenal in New York and North Africa, among others, with postings in the Air Corps, Ordnance, and Marine units.
Isaac Overholt, 86, a retired farmer of S Third Street, died Monday morning after a year of ill health. He was buried at Wadsworth cemetery on Wednesday afternoon. Funeral services were at Ebert Funeral Home at 2 p m with Rev. W E Price of the United Brethren church presiding. Survivors include his widow Alice and two sons, Clifford of home and William of Marshallville.

Mr and Mrs Frank Haas of Wilmington Del announce the birth of a daughter Linda Mary on December 30. The baby weighed 6 pounds 7 ounces. Mrs Haas is the former Catherine Bender.
A reader notes that a $73 purchase funds two war bond buys for an infantryman. The investment covers critical gear including a rifle helmet bayonet and scabbard, illustrating how civilian support financed soldiers’ fighting equipment during the war.
Miss Martha Hartzler daughter of Mrs Frank B Hartzler of Smithville and Mr David T Plank son of Mr and Mrs Clarence Plank of Bath Ohio were united in marriage at the Brethren church in Smithville December 26 at four o clock in the afternoon. The church was lit by white candles with seven branched candelabra and palms and ferns. A half tour of music was presented by R Wellington Klin ger Mrs Harvey Amstutz of Smithville sang I Love Thee He cause and Oh Promise Me. The bride was given in marriage by her brother Robert D Hartzler. Mrs R Wellington Klin ger a sister of the bride was matron of honor. The misses Esther Jenkins of New York City Lucile Adams of Medina Mesdames Richard Fate of Smithville and Charles Baxter of Granger sister of the groom were bridesmaids. David Baxter nephew of the groom acted as ring bearer. S Sgt Henry Plank brother of the groom served as best man. The ushers were Edward Spelth of Detroit Mich Harlan Thomas of Wadsworth W H Holenstein of Rittman and Floyd Ramseyer of Smithville Rev J G Dodds of the Smithville Brethren church officiated. The bride is a graduate of Ashland college and is teaching in the second grade at Rittman. The groom is a graduate of Baldwin Wallace college and is the superintendent of schools.

Funeral services are set for Friday at 2 p.m. in North Lawrence chapel for Robert Baker aged 32 who died Wednesday at his North Lawrence home after a two day illness. Burial will follow in the local cemetery. He was a brother of Paul Baker of Rittman and formerly employed at the Ohio Boxboard Co. Surviving are his widow Mildred a son Bing another brother Virgil of Big Prairie and his mother Mrs Martha Baker.
In a Dec 31 journal entry, Juanita C Killian receives 5000 from Frank B Killian of Doylestown area. 1000 paid immediately, 4000 secured by note. 250 monthly for Mrs Killian and four children, custody to her. She gains a Chippewa Township farm deed, household goods, ongoing insurance with no beneficiary changes, and right to live in the Killian home. Parties to live apart. husband retains possession not listed. Attorneys Jones and Graven for Mrs Killian.
Lt. William Newberry resumes combat flying with an American fighter squadron based on Sardinia, 150 miles from Rome, after hospital recovery in North Africa. He informed his wife and parents in Newberry.
At the organization meeting of the board of trustees of public affairs Monday night at City Hall Y U Grant, the only returning member, was elected president. H W Brown was chosen vice president. E W Elsass is the other member. Karl Kohler was chosen again to serve as clerk.
John E. Boyes of Rittman faces a second degree murder charge for fatally stabbing his son Emmett. Orville Curtis of Rittman is indicted for carrying concealed weapons. The county grand jury returned 14 indictments against 13 persons at Wooster on Wednesday.
Mrs. C. C. Church died at Barberton Hospital after an operation. Daughter of Ezria Kindig of Rittman she was born there. Survived by husband, a daughter Mrs Alfred Mikolashek and two grandchildren. Sister of Mrs Fred Burger Bert Kindig Earl Kindig Charles Kindig Ben Kindig and Sam Burbeck.
Attorneys Robert Critchtfield and Karl Hoover of Wooster will represent Boyes at his arraign ment and trial.
The Lions club will sponsor dances at City Hall auditorium every Saturday night for teenage youth of Rittman following a successful inaugural New Year's Eve event. The recreation board organized the dances, Ii. Steele arranged mechanical tasks after the council approved a $100 Breecht. Mayor John Baldwin helped chaperone the first dance. Lions members and wives will share chaperoning, decorations, music, and refreshments.
The Rittman Indians fell to Sterling Eagles 39 to 27 in a rough neighborhood battle. Sterling guard Jimmy Schneider scored 24 points on nine field goals and six free throws, while Graf led Rittman with six points.
A Wednesday Wellington announcement says the National Housing Agency approved funding for 180 dwelling units in the Rittman area. The plan likely involves temporary war housing, with construction led by Uncle Stim the contractor and Obie Boxboard Co. execs in touch with Washington. A site has not been selected yet and the housing committee will meet promptly to consider plans.
H S Squibbs was elected president of the board of education at the initial meeting held Wednesday night at the high school. Jack Witleme was elected vice president. The retiring president conducted the year’s business and commended fellow members. Committees will be appointed at the next meeting. Janitor Frank’s salary was raised to 185.40 monthly through year end. Mrs Bowie Schumacher was rehired as clerk at 38 per month for 12 months. Budget of 822,241 was appropriated to various funds.
Quotas for the Fourth War Loan drive are set to share Wayne County total of 3,533,000. The Rittmar Savitge Bank district is allotted 384,6376, with Doylestown absorbing part of the third loan. Of this, 87,536 must be sold in bonds. Drive begins January 18 with Rev. D B Davidson reading local committee. Farmers district at Sterling assigned 896, Ray Steiner chairs that drive.
