City Council considers five percent cost of living plus merit increases
An ordinance proposing a five percent cost of living wage raise for all city employees and an additional five percent merit increase for City Manager Robert Trimble was set for Council action at a special meeting. The plan would raise Trimble’s annual pay from 12600 to 13860 and extend across a four step merit schedule for all staff with uniform allowances and service payments for volunteers and officials.

Chamber Elects Fudge President
The Chamber of Commerce held its organizational meeting electing officers for the coming year. Don Fudge was chosen as president with John Lunter as vice president and Ben Bodager as treasurer. They set the third Monday monthly meeting time and discussed updating the city brochure and launching Quality Control Week with the slogan Pledge to Quality. Don Fudge will appoint division chairmen and call a meeting to plan objectives for 1972.

Gettings Road to Route 37 Extension Near City Limits
The State Highway Department announces Gettings Road will extend to Route 37, rising above flood water and paving. The $225,000 project is part of six Issue I grants approved to ease traffic bottlenecks. The route follows the old railroad bed and will pass near Lavery's Pond, with right of way from five property owners.

Mrs Ella Thomas Schafter Dies After Long Illness
Mrs Ella Thomas Schafter died Wednesday night at Wadsworth Rittman Hospital after a long illness. Born January 26 1893 at Glenmont to John and Mary Mackey she lived in the Sterling Rittman area. She and husband Ervin V Schaffter observed their 50th wedding anniversary April 15 1965. Surviving are three sons John Seville Ervin Jr Sterling and James Seville a daughter Virginia Bloch Chippewa Lake a brother Rudy Mackey Glenmont a sister Mrs Tress McElroy Mansfield and seven grandchildren. Services were held Saturday from Gillman Funeral Home with burial in Rittman Cemetery. Reverend Loren R Kuhn officiated.
