Ada Charlton Armstrong, former resident of 21 S Fourth St Berea, died last Thursday after a lingering cancer illness. She was a daughter of the late Tom Charlton who long served as a watchman for Ohio Salt Co. Burial followed Saturday at Sunset Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs Barr named president of the Mothers Club at the first meeting of the new year held in Recreation fence. She announced committees for the term including program chairs and officers to start duties in September, with members urged to participate in the community effort.
Local organizations announce January meetings and programs across Milton. St Ann's Study Club hosts Mrs George Haller on Sterling Ave, Otterbein Bible Class gathers at 163 N First St, and Three Arts Club reconvenes at Mrs J W Frye's home with Hawaii slide talk.
As of press time no official announcement has been made for the three baby contests run by the Rittman Press. Winners in each area will start life with a $10 savings account funded by local banks.
Frank Watson was re elected president of the Rittman Board of Education in a regular session Wednesday evening. The board named Robert West as vice president and Mrs J J Williams as clerk with full time year round status at 230 dollars per month. Wayne Bennett was hired as athletics manager from the second semester with 200 dollars extra annually. The 260 530 dollar current expense budget was set for the coming year. Main items include 195 000 for teacher salaries and 11 400 for custodial salaries.
Rittman Council held a special meeting to swear in new members and elect a president. Vernon Steiner was chosen to act as mayor until Mayor John Baldwin returns from vacation next week.
Alexander Scotty Tohm aged 72 died after a lingering heart condition on Monday. Born in Scotland he came to America in 1904 and lived in Canada before settling in Rittman where he ran a machine shop. He moved to Cuyahoga Falls after his wife's death andworked at Vaughn Machine Co and Akron shops before retirement. Interment followed at Rittman Cemetery.
Emma Houglan was named president of the Olla Podrida Club at its annual meeting. New officers include Faye Wenger as vice president Ruth Krabill secretary Nellie Shook assistant secretary Gladys Rolph treasurer and Mary Thomas assistant treasurer Ada Davis joins the program committee. The group voted to honor Evelyn Grant with a library book gift to Rittman Public Library and a donation to the Arthritis fund.
Winners Joe Zollinger RFC Rittman and Fred Maibach of Rittman correctly named the mystery farm as Isaac Rufener’s Seville property. The 112 acre farm, long owned by Albert Rastorfer, is run as a general farm. The group supported several charities and the Entre Nous club sponsored the Korea project.
Rittman Board of Education members questioned the architects after bids for the high school addition came in about 20 percent above estimates, totaling 723 572 dollars. The board may revise plans to fit the 912 009 dollar bond funds or re advertise, with a special meeting planned in roughly three weeks.
Mrs R D Wenger and Don Step have been named co chairmen for the Rittman March of Dimes drive. Plans for the drive are being formulated and announced next week. January 31 is set as the Mothers March on Polio date.

In the court of Justice Milton Hughes Jr Chark York was fined 25 and costs for leaving the scene of a spray accident and 26 costs for driving without a license. In Rittman mayor's court John Milen faced intoxication charges and was fined 15. Florence Harding Coupeil Daughters of America to meet Jan 10 at 7 30 PM in Rohrer Hall with deputy Inez Novak installing officers and presenting an audit.
