A series of eight grainy photos captured the Sterling wreck early Tuesday morning by Woody Wilson Allan Burger and Ernest Harrison. The scene shows the overturned coal tender atop the Erie engine with the last unbroken rail beneath, as bulldozers opened the road. The thermometer read 6 below zero despite bright sun and an injured firefighter was taken to hospital. The Akron Beacon Journal published two of the shots Wednesday.
