Meade Re-elected President of Pulp Mill Workers

Robert Meade was re elected president of the Pulp Sulphite and Paper Mill Workers Brotherhood of America at a recent meeting. Other officers elected include John Alexander as vice president Ralph Armstrong as corresponding and recording secretary Glen Russell as financial secretary Victor Holland as treasurer Oris O Neal and Elmer Watts as guards John Hodovan and Elwood Lately as trustees Frank Patterson as sick committee Harold Pelfrey as division representative carton division Fred Stone as corrugated division representative Jim Hawkins as central maintenance and power Robert Cornelius as mill division. Election committee members were Ralph Skeens Ralph Van Nostran and Paul Baker.

City to Pickup Christmas Trees January 3–6

The City of Rittman will collect discarded Christmas trees placed at the curb from Friday January 3 until Monday January 6. Residents may also bring trees to the city landfill on East Sunset Drive, per City Manager Macauley Gosney.

Rittman Fails To Secure Junior Achievement Building

The Rittman Board of Education may not gain use of the JA Building for the school district. City officials say turning the building over to the board is unlikely with JA’s program possibly continuing next year. If JA drops the program, the city must find space for Girl Scouts and other groups now inside the building. Remodeling costs and taxpayer funding concerns are cited as obstacles.

Bank Increases Dividend By The Rittman Savings Bank

The Board of Directors votes to raise the dividend to 1.50 a share for 1968. Stockholders meet at the main office 20 South Main on January 8 at 2 p.m. to elect directors and review the past year’s activities.

Trustees Report Milton Township 1968 in the Black

Trustees presented their annual report detailing 15 miles of new hard surface roads 24 hour police protection a modern fire department and rescue squad with emergency vehicle 24 hour snow removal service and a forthcoming 100 bed hospital completing next year residents are advised of improved street lighting and an additional water well for fire protection.

Art Classes Begin Jan 2 at City Recreation Dept

The City Recreation Department starts a new series of adult art classes on Thursday Jan 2 from 7 to 10 pm at the Rittman shopping center rear entrance. First project is a collage. Each student brings a board textured material and glue. Teacher is Russell Muzycka. Cost is $12 for six lessons. For more information contact Mrs John Zivick or Mrs Clyde McCray.
