Christmas birthday gift and hospital notices blend
A long slim gift wrapped half in Christmas paper and half in birthday paper arrives at Jim Trogdon’s as Nadine Trogdon notes her forgotten birthday. The column lists Pat Bradford’s eighth surgery since Sept 11 at Akron City Hospital, Jerry Gosney’s return from DEW Line duty near Point Barrow, Alaska, and several local hospital updates including flu cases and expected homecomings. It also covers Chippewa Township voters facing a January 7 election for a new high school, a $260,000 bond issue with 2.75 mills, a state grant of 1.15 million, and plans for a 600-student facility with modern amenities if approved.

Auto parking ordinance fuels town dispute
The ordinance limits overnight parking to permitholders with storage facilities or driveways. Officials note current rules hinder snow plowing and propose automatic ticketing or towing. Off street parking plans include areas behind Village Pump Freed's Ford, Salt and South Main Streets, and behind city hall. Brookside may face restrictions due to its narrow 20 foot road and shoulder. City may charge per unit for dump visits as the era of a free dump ends. A new state law could mandate regular dump inspections and more staff.
