The 4th War Loan in the Rittman-Doylestown area far surpassed its goal with over $630,000 raised by noon led by Ohio Boxboard Co. at $300,000 and bank totals of $562,000 in Rittman and $68,000 in Doylestown. Payroll deductions may push the total to about $650,000 as Sterling also exceeded its quota with more than $80,000 subscribed.
Eleven men from Cleveland reported for duty after being inducted on January 24 the last group under the old draft system. They rode the C A C train to Columbus and then Fort Mayes for assignment. Names include Robert E. Webner and Clarence D. Hartzier among others. Martzier served as acting corporate for the group. Five men are slated for Navy service on the 19th. The local board awaits release of 136 pre-induction exam results from January 21.
Americans were told to expect a 13 million case cut in canned fruits and a 34 million case reduction in vegetables for 1944 45 as draft boards may cancel farm deferments unless a registrant is irreplaceable. Co W Kitchen warned at the 1944 convention in Chicago that these reductions rest on War Food Administration distribution plans.

Salvage Chairman R W Fredrick announces a city wide drive for a carload of tin cans on February 23. Cans must be prepared with tops and bottoms cut and flattened.
