Osborne Library Friends Meet in Osbornes Reorganization

The Friends of the Library held a January 30 meeting at 8:30 p.m. with K. W. Osborne reelected chairman and Cathrine Twinem named secretary treasurer. Ruth Minglin noted rising circulation from Rittman and urged local use of library services. Library hours are 3 to 5 and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. daily except Saturday. Librarians P M Hawkins and Everett Winkler assist residents of Rittman Sterling and nearby areas.

Three Arts Clubdonates to Scout drive and plans bake sale

The Three Arts Club met February 3 at Miss Esther Bruny’s home with twenty members present. They voted to give 25 to the local Scout drive and planned a bake sale for February 15 at W. W. Bodager’s office.

Soldier's Medal for Pfc Frederick Cook Heroic Rescue

PFC Frederick Cook of Sterling is recommended for the Soldier's Medal after saving a friend from an oncoming car in Denver. Cook pushed his companion clear but was struck and is recovering at Lowry Field after the incident near a streetcar stop.

Rittmanites Attend County C E Banquet

A large group of Rittman youths attended the Wayne County C E banquet at Sn Wav ille Inn Monday night. Transformation was provided by adult sponsors. Readings were given by Richard Milford. Names from Milton Presbyterian Church included Vivian Hardgrove Eileen Fackler Ethel Mae Coffman Margaret Grent Jane Rolph Eugene Over Richard Grant Boyde Bodager Ben Bodager Richard Heiks Bill Ritter. Rittman Leads Massillon YMCA Basketball Entries

The Massillon paper notes Rittman American Legion team is the first official entry in the YMCA basketball event for the week of February 24. Entries close February 18 at 6 p.m. The committee plans 110 awards across many departments of play.

Mrs Hickin Hosts Bridge Club in Grandview Event

Mrs. Robert Hickin entertained her Contract bridge club Tuesday evening February 4 at her Grandview Boulevard home. Four tables played for prizes won by Mrs. Ralph Overholt and Mrs. G H Steele. The club plans a meeting Monday evening February 10 with Mrs. Overholt.

Fire damages Hile home near City Hall

Fire at the James Hile residence near City Hall caused about 7000 to 8000 dollars in damage. A rear apartment was gutted while the main floor weakened, and two families were driven from their homes as neighbors helped evacuate. Neighbors woke by cries for help as Clyde Jackson and family escaped with two children.

Rittman High keeps league pace with Millersburg win

Rittman High School defeated Millersburg 49 to 35 to remain in second place in the C B L standings. Orrville leads with five wins and no losses. Rittman sits at four wins in five starts. A non league loss to Canal Fulton 57 to 49 followed the Friday victory. Co B St Varsities show Orrville atop the table with 5 0. Local notes report illness and visits including Mrs Willard Hilty ill with flu and Mrs Cleo Bird visiting her father Ollie Cox.

Girl Scouts Learn Songs and Make Valentine Treats

Mrs Joseph Clemens taught Troop 1 three Girl Scout songs at this weeks U B church meeting. Seventeen scouts attended and crafted dressed up lollypops with red skirts and heart shaped faces as Valentine favors.

In the Smithville tournament second round, Ohio Boxboard defeated Smithville Independents 48 to 40, while the Rittman Legion beat Sullivan 64 to 39. Snyder scored 17 for the Boxboard. Milford led the Legion with 27.

Rittman Reserves Sweep League Play with Millersburg Win

Rittman High's backup squad remains the only second string team in the Central Buckeye League undefeated in league games this season. The Indians defeated Millersburg 30 to 12 last Friday night, then lost a tight 35 to 34 to Canal Fulton on Saturday.

Troop 405 Plans Weekend Camp At Manitoc

Boy Scout Troop 405 led by Scout master W M Phillips will spend February 8 and 9 at Camp Manitoc with assistants Joe Clemens and F O Kanehl joining. The group includes Boyd Bodager Ben Bodager Richard Heiks Richard Kanehl Ronnie Woyat Bryan Kamp Donnie Hile Eddie Rolph Johnny Haley John Benek Warren Hardgrove and Johnny Lunther. Box To Bring Crack Pro Cagers

The Basketball Association of the Ohio Boxboard Company plans exhibition games led by pro teams. The opener is Monday February 17 at 8 15 p m against Canton Cushites featuring Marion Motley Wee Willie Smith Wilder Bobby Nash and Ernie Parks among others. A 6th grade all star game will precede. Tickets 50c for students 75c for adults with a $3 coach package available. Events promote local high school attendance and include multiple area schools.
