Funeral services for Corporal Donald A Petit

Doylestown Saturday services were held at St Peter and Pauls church for Corporal Donald A Petit born November 19 1924 in Doylestown killed in Germany in July 1945. Survived by parents six brothers two sisters and several relatives. he attended Doylestown High School and worked at Firestone cafeteria before enlisting. He was a member of St Peter and Pauls church and the Foresters.

Margaret Wenger and Richard Berger Wed in Milton Presbyterian Church

Miss Margaret Lucille Wenger daughter of Mr and Mrs A M Wenger 151 N Second St and Richard E Berger son of Mr and Mrs Ernest Berger Easton were united in marriage in Milton Presbyterian Church last Sunday. Rev Dwight B Davidson officiated with a double ring ceremony. The altar featured evergreens and poinsettias and lighted Christmas trees. Mrs A L Ebert played selections including I Love You Truly during the ceremony. The bride wore white lace with fingertip veil and a tiara, carrying a shower bouquet of white chrysanthemums. Miss Pat Carruthers Akron maid of honor. James Buson Kent best man. ushers Robert Wenger Delaware and Kenneth Halter.

Legion To Hold Watch Party On New Year's Eve

The American Legion post hosts an 8 pm watch party at the Le tion building for ex servicemen wives and guests. Fish and sauerkraut are served and music and dancing provide entertainment.

Worthy matron Dorothy Davidson and retiring matron Eileen Spaulding led a ceremony as officers were installed by past matrons and patrons. Rittman Shifts Rubbish Pickup To Thursdays In 1949

City council last Monday approved moving monthly rubbish collection from Mondays to the first Thursday of each month starting January 9 1949. The change takes effect with the next collection.

Christmas Lighting Winners Named in Rittman

Three homes in Rittman won top honors in the city Christmas lighting contest. District 1 East of Main judged best at 180 E Sunset Dr the Firis home. District 2 West of Main and south of Ohio honored the Kunkler home. District 3 North of Ohio and west of Main celebrated Coffman residence. Judges were Miss Hattie Sigler Mayor Melvin R. Ritter and Harold Rich. Westinghouse irons were awarded by Ohio Public Service Co to each winner.

Indians Sharpen Their Tomahawks Ahead of Winter Schedule

Daily practices have kept the Rittman high cagers busy in prep aration for the resumption of their winter schedule. Their first game at Millersburg will be played on Friday, January 7. Rittman will host Dalton on Saturday, January 8. The team saw the John Carroll basketball thriller with Cornell at the Cleveland Arena Wednesday night.

Rittman World War I Vet Charles E Craig Dies

Charles E Craig 52 a World War I veteran died suddenly of a heart attack on Wednesday while recovering at Wadsworth Hospital. Funeral services were held at United Evangelical Church with Rev Daniel Breymeyer officiating. He worked 20 years for Ohio Boxboard Co and is survived by his wife Carrie three sons Harold Kenneth and Ralph a daughter Norma and one grandchild. Military honors were provided by American Legion Howard A' Bair Post 423 of Rittman.

Baby contests announced in Rittman and Doylestown

Separate contests offer prizes for the first baby born in Rittman and Milton township and the first baby born in Doylestown and Chippewa township. Twelve Rittman merchants and eight Doylestown merchants list prizes. Entries must be submitted by January 5.

Mrs Ada Fisher of 114 E Sunset Drive died Thursday at Beeson Hospital Wooster after a long illness. Survived by husband Robert R Fisher a daughter Roberta at home a son William of Creston five sisters and one brother. Burial in Wooster cemetery. McIntire Funeral Home Wooster in charge.

Four Celebrate Joint Silver Wedding Anniversary

Two Rittman couples Mr and Mrs John Rush of 39 Fairlawn St and Mr and Mrs Claude Smith of 145 Wright St marked their 25th anniversaries at the Smorgasbord in Stow. Married in 1923 their ceremonies occurred on the same day in Ohio. Both men worked long in the Ohio Boxboard Company mill department, Rush 18 years and Smith 20. They only learned of the coincidence about a year ago and planned a joint celebration for months.

Council Votes Wage Increases in City Hiring

City council approved wage hikes starting January 1 for municipal workers. Hourly staff gain 15 cents per hour, and salaried employees receive $25 more monthly, totaling about $200 extra per month. A water mains extension request of 2500 dollars was discussed with bond legality to be reviewed. A skating ban at Heffelman pond was enacted with fines up to 50 dollars. Parking lot behind Brenneman’s store nears completion, and a new emergency pump was installed at the disposal plant amid dredging of Landis ditch completion.

Highway Walker Dies At Sterling

Route 60 pedestrian death in Sterling occurred at 2:35 am when Lewis Stack 40 B and O railroad worker was struck by Cecil Reece of Creston. He died instantly and was buried in Sharon cemetery Ohio. Survived by widow Ethel two children Marvin and Dorris and his parents. Investigating officers included Chief Heffelman and Constable Reynolds.
