Charlotte Christian wins Rittman Press Christmas coloring contest

Charlotte Christian, a fourth grade student from Fairlawn Avenue, won a leather bound notebook in the Rittman Press Christmas coloring contest. Hundreds entered. prize pickup by January 7. Other winners named include Carla Armbrust, Ralph Flint, Roger Tucker, and several Burns and Horner family members.

Recreation board approves two staff for youth program

The Rittman Recreation Board and Advisory Council moved to add two staff members Marilyn Landis and Sue Roth to the recreation department to aid younger children. They will teach hand crafts and games at the Recreation Hall after Jan 1 with baton twirling and ceramics planned. volunteers still needed. Councilman Banders praised the plan but warned support from local residents is essential. The annual recreation director salary of 3600 dollars was not debated at the meeting.

Donors sought for Rittman library building fund

Year end donations to the build fund of the Rittman Public Library will be received by the Endowment Committee. Chairman C. E. Rhonemus and vice chairman Dr. E. R. Axi are named. Funds go into a savings account at Rittman Savings Bank for the new library building on North Main Street beside the Recreation Center.

City survey to decide disposal plant needs approved

The Alden E. Stillson Co. of Cleveland will conduct a $2,500 preliminary survey to determine if the present disposal plant should be rebuilt or a new plant built. Work starts early next year. final reports come months later. The study will assess capacity, drainage, and future needs for 15 years, including sewer lines near the Ohio Boxboard plant. If a new plant is required, a bond issue may follow in coming years.

Services held for Mrs. Rastorfer in Rittman

Funeral services were conducted for Mrs Pearl B Rastorfer who died Friday after a year of illness at age 70. She lived at 44 Sterling Ave and had resided in Rittman since 1905 coming from near Smithville. She married Roy Faber in 1908. he died in 1929. In 1937 she wed Adolf Rastorfer who survives with a large extended family including children, stepchildren, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was a member of Milton Presbyterian Church.

Script money must be cashed by Jan 1

Merchants must cash all script money won in the recent merchants contest by January 1 according to Chamber of Commerce Secretary Harold Davis. After that date the script money will not be valid. Merchants receiving the script money must turn it into Davis by January 1 to ensure payment.

Local males edged the visiting All-American Red Heads 53 46 in a lively exhibition. The Red Heads endured long road trips and heavy doubleheaders, while city officials discussed recreation salaries and a new hospitalization plan affecting all full time workers.

Burglars strike at Norwayne High School

Burglars smashed a cafeteria window and a paper dispenser at Norwayne High School early Tuesday. They broke into the principal’s office, tore a filing cabinet, rifled the secretary’s desk, and stole 50 cents. No further losses reported.

Brother of local man dies at 89 in Lodi

Services were held Monday afternoon at Elliott Funeral Home in Lodi for Wilson Bensing er 89 brother of Oliver Bensinger of South Third Street. He died Thursday in Lodi Hospital after an eight week illness. A retired farmer and Akron Baptist Temple member he is survived by two sons Clayton and Howard of Lodi one daughter Mrs Chester Woolum of Akron four grandchildren eight great grandchildren and his brother in Rittman Rev Dallas Billington officiated Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery in Lodi.

Graber Sworn In as County Commissioner

Joseph Graber of Creston was sworn into office Monday to serve as the new county commissioner. He will officially assume the post on January 5 and is the first Democrat in the office since 1954. Graber was sworn in by Common Pleas Judge Adrian Miller at the inner courthouse after winning the post by nine votes over Fred Ebright.
