A Doylestown editor laments dwindling merchant advertising and asks local shopkeepers to consolidate stores and invest in ads. He notes weak support from area merchants, compares pricing with nearby towns, and urges a unified effort to sustain the weekly paper.

Death of Miss Margaret Steiner reported. Services will be held at her home southwest of Rittman on Christmas day.

The first of the year will see changes at Rittman Hardware Company. Frank Grissinger leaves hardware to run a tin and stove store and engage in roofing and spouting. Joe Landis joins with Councilman Webster Mongey to run general hardware and plumbing. D R Lance becomes superintendent of Rittman Tile and Clay Products. Johnny Rohrer’s future interest is unclear. These men are regarded as solid business people and are expected to have successful careers.
The council met in an extra session Monday at 8 30 with members Frederick Mougey Brenneman Smith and Sigler present. They discussed widening Main streets and arranged to view the street with property owners on New Year’s Day to pursue settlement by negotiation or condemnation. The curfew ordinance passed after suspending the rules. The meeting adjourned at 9 59 to reconvene Tuesday Jan 7 due to a lecture program.
A Wednesday December 25 1912 basketball game at the Realty block features John Steffanni as coach and referee with a visiting professional player. Free admission invites all to watch a clean exciting contest between Pirates and Outlaws led by Clifford Shook center and Mills left guard.
Commissioners held the final hearing for Damiel Wald ditch No 201. Daniel Steiner received 20 dollars compensation and 15 damages. August Schaffter got 30 compensation 17 damages and 10 tile damage. Eugene Veney added 30 to the amount sought. Henry Long reduced 10.68 and W E Hoover 1932.
