Funeral services were held Monday at Bite Funeral Home in Wadsworth for Mrs Winnie L West who died Thursday evening at her home. She was born in West Virginia and had lived in Wadsworth. A son Donald and a daughter Beverly survive, along with two sisters and two brothers in law.

Rittman sees record 1959 building boom with 131 permits

Village figures show 131 building permits issued in 1959 totaling 1 029 709 dollars. New homes accounted for 58 permits and 731 000 dollars, a Rittman home building record. Builders predict continued growth into 1960 with plans for new streets and possible city status.

Site chosen for Ritmans Twelfth Night Christmas tree bonfire

An open site east of Industrial Street near the swimming pool hill and tennis courts was selected by William Mays of the Chamber of Commerce and Ron Goodhart to host Ritmans unusual Twelfth Night ceremony on January 6. The event, a collaboration of the Chamber and the Ministerial Association, aims to bring back Christmas meaning with a giant bonfire of Christmas trees.

Study Aims to Resolve Bloody 94 Traffic Dangers

State Highways plans an origin and destination study of Route 94 between Rittman and Wadsworth after four deaths and about sixty injuries this year. Engineer Ray Stoll says findings will decide whether to bypass Wadsworth or route around it toward the new expressway. The project runs fiscal 1962 from July 1961 to July 1962, with construction start pending funds and matching federal money. The study will use carnal photos of the route in winter light for clarity.

Nominating period opens for Most Distinguished Citizen 1959

Two weeks remain to nominate a candidate for the Most Distinguished Citizen Award. Nominations must be submitted to Chamber of Commerce Secretary Harold Davis by January 10. The winner will be announced at the Chamber dinner January 21 with a $50 savings bond and certificate. The letter should detail volunteer work. a $10 prize goes to the letter writer. A panel of three out of town judges will select the Citizen of the Year based on volunteer service to clubs, churches, or individual community work. This is the ninth year of the award, with past winners listed.

Two Car Crash Injures Phares D Martin Near Smithville

Police say a 59 year old man Phares D Martin of Rit tman was treated for bruises after a collision on County Road 48 north of Smithville. Amstutz 23 of Rit tman pulled from a private drive into Marvin Hilty Marshallville's auto. Both cars damaged. Martin a passenger in Amstutz car.

Area men fail to file expenses in election

Two area men were among 12 candidates in the November election who failed to file expense accounts by the December 18 deadline. Donald Gable, an unsuccessful candidate for Council, and Ralph Weber, who ran for the North Central Board of Education, both failed to file. Under law they will be barred from running for any public office for five years.

Weekend accident roundup includes four cars damaged

Over the weekend two accidents caused damage to four cars and slight injuries to one occupant. A collision three miles west of Doylestown on County Road 70 at 3:30 p.m. Sunday involved Ralph Cline driving left of center and James Wright. In Creston two northbound cars collided on Ohio Route 3 with Cleo Aukerman spraining her neck when her car was rear ended by Donald Boyes, who faced a failure to stop charge.
