Murder at Sterling Ends in Fatal Wounding

In Sterling Ohio on December 22 6 30 pm Leroy Williams was shot in the stomach at the old Valley House and died at Akron hospital. Barney Finch alias Poor Boy is accused of the shooting after a quarrel and was captured at Chicago Junction. A 38 caliber revolver was used and alcohol and craps were linked to the tragedy.

Holiday Closing and School Updates At Local District

Our school will close Thursday for the holiday and reopen Monday January 3. Christmas programs will be held Thursday at 2 PM in every room. Miss Ruth Adaip, a primary teacher, fell ill and went home to Wooster. She is reported in the hospital in Wooster and may undergo appendicitis surgery. Plans aim to finish work on the new building after vacation to ease staff workload and improve teaching and pay conditions.

Progressive Club Meeting at Dulabahn Home

The Progressive Country Club met at Gertrude and Elmer Dulabahn’s home Friday evening. Members held extemporaneous speeches readings and a debate on whether the U S has more to be ashamed of than proud. The program included a third contest games and a Taffy Pull with members finally leaving after the late night activity. Ray Fulton and Dewey Wartman signed the constitution and joined the club.

Obituary of Chaney Johnson of Rittman Akron resident dies aged 83

Chaney Johnson born April 28 1832 in Rittman died December 17 1915 in Akron at 83.7 months. He was a lifelong resident of Rittman or nearby and married Mary Maury Snyder about 1870. Surviving are a daughter from the wife’s prior marriage, one sister Mrs Emanuel Metsger, and two brothers Doe Johnson and Griffith Johnson. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church Sunday led by Rev Hobart with burial at Knupp cemetery.

Royally Entertained on Mr Hanes Birthday Dinner

On Monday evening December 13 a six o clock dinner honored Mr J E Hanes birthday. The table held carnations and nut baskets as favors. A seven course meal was served to guests including Mr and Mrs Dr Toland, J H Fisher and daughter Beatrice, and Mr and Mrs W G Spade. Fisher reportedly remained under a doctor’s care afterward.

A reunion of pupils and teachers from School District No. 5 Milton Township will be held at the Milton Center schoolhouse on Wednesday December 29. All pupils teachers and friends are invited to attend with well filled baskets a picnic dinner will be served.
