1951 Tax Rates Are Announced for Rittman Area
Rittman area tax rates drop from 20 to 18 mills this year per county auditor Earl Lautenschlager with a new two tenths mill Soldiers' Bonus levy added. The levy becomes effective on December bills and December statements will be mailed after Christmas. Rittman school district rates fall to 14.90 mills from 18.80. rates for Milton, Baughman, Chippewa, Greene, and Canaan townships are listed.

Christmas Eve openings extend hours in Rittman shops
Santa rode into town last Saturday as several stores in Rittman extended hours for Christmas. Merchants did not report a unified schedule, but most planned to close around 8:30 or 9:00. Decoration Contest Opens in Rittman This Year
C E Rhonemus president of the Chamber of Commerce announces Rittman’s annual Home Decoration contest with 10 first prizes of 10 in each district and second prize merchandise from Ohio Edison. Districts are east of Main Street, west of Main Street south of Ohio Avenue, and west of Main Street north of Ohio Avenue. Judges include Mayor Lewis Hoover Miss Hattie Sigler and Rev Albert Henry. Judging based on originality and decorative theme will be completed at end of next week.

Two Cars Smashed On Rt 94 Bridge Near Rittman
Police reported a serious crash on Route 94 east of Rittman last Friday night when a car driven by Trent Boyes hit James Tucker’s car, causing a multi vehicle collision with a Hall Trucking Company truck that caught fire. Tucker suffered several broken ribs and was hospitalized briefly. Persons involved from Rittman include Ted and Roy Boyes, Ted’s wife, James and Oscar Bryant, and R D Tucker. The Tucker car and Boyes car were total losses. the truck had minor damage.

Postmaster Mougey announced delivery will extend to West Liberty from Fairlawn west, West Sunset Avenue, North Street and Orchard Street starting January 1. Some sections lacked sidewalks, now added to regular routes. The stamp window will stay open until 8 PM from December 18 to 22 for late mailers.
