The Rittman Education Association submitted to the Board of Education a plan for a five percent pay raise and an educational stipend to cover tuition for full-time teachers pursuing further education. Roy Sinclair voiced the proposal, urging benefits for those earning bachelor degrees and pursuing additional study.
The county Board will study the entire proposal before action. They discussed unified purchasing with other schools in the county. Superintendent W. H. Hauenstein cited last year’s purchases of typewriters and art paper under the plan with savings on typewriters but poor quality paper. He said unified purchasing offers economical buying and a uniform privilege of buying.
Neil Milford and Jan were feted by friends in a planned farewell that featured a funeral home hearse and a masked arrival. The couple dined at Embers, then learned their party moved to a hidden gathering with many locals. Jan and Neil plan to reunite in Newark after his new post with Atlas Freight.
A three part series by the Chippewa Watershed Information Committee references H L Hoffman Chief Engineer of the Mdskingum Conservancy District. It covers maintenance costs projections for the watershed and procedures to raise assessments beyond one percent per year with court approval.
Rittman High School releases the list of students earning all A s for the second six weeks. Recipients include seniors Marilyn Starcher Sharon Steiner and juniors Rita Hessidence Carla Lind. others with no grade below B include seniors Marvin Ramsie Audrey Winchell Linda Gordon Connie Tuska Barbara Banders Linda Zollinger Joyce Crabtree Gerry Fellows Ann Robinson and several juniors, sophomores, and freshmen.
Rittman Volunteer Fire Department will host Santa at the fire station before Christmas to deliver candy boxes to children up to 12. The event, done with Park and Recreation Commission support, requires announcement of Santa’s arrival date. a recreation council had debated ending the project due to lack of interest.
A small fire and smoke were reported at the Boyes property on Road 126. The Rittman Volunteer Fire Department responded in force this morning. Fire of undetermined origin appeared to start in the southwest corner of the unoccupied home, causing about 300 dollars in damages. The property lies outside the township limits in Milton Township, just north of Salt Street Extension on the road’s west side.
A sparkling Christmas concert by Rittman High School features the concert band and mixed and girls choruses. In the new gym at 7:30 p.m. the program opens with Frumpet Voluntary and Gesu Bambino, includes Toy Symphony with toy instruments, Panis Angelicus, A Night Before Christmas narration, Hansel and Gretel themes, and Sound of Christmas. Gene Sharick conducts. Mrs. Wrolyn Warren directs the vocal groups.
A public meeting next Tuesday at 7 30 p m in City Hall will present details of the 118 page comprehensive planning survey by Vogt Ivers and Associates. William Creson urges all organizations and citizens to attend as the report outlines Rittman’s future growth, facilities needs, and the role of planning in guiding the city toward an orderly development path through 1990.
Rittman Chamber of Commerce invites nominations for the annual Citizen of the Year. Nominations must include volunteer efforts with clubs organizations or churches. Entries due by January 21 and judging by a panel of three outsiders before the January 30 dinner where a $50 savings bond and a $10 prize for the writer are awarded.
One seventh grader made all A s for the second six weeks. Elaine Heaberlin leads with Marian Greenbank Kathy Rohrer Bruce Holland and Kenneth Wiles close behind. Other seventh graders on the second honor roll include Jeanne Brenneman Linda Markee Melanie Pratt Nancy Sandrock and Robert Dotterer. Eighth graders on the honor roll feature Randall Adams Bruce Dean Joyce Beery Karen Burkhart Margie Greenbank Carolyn Lambert Beverly Shaffer Cheryle Stone Darrell Carey Van Peterman and Bonnie Damron.
Old Saint Nick plans two drops in the Rittman Community Service Building this Saturday from 1 to 5 pm and 6 to 8 pm with elves’ conference from 5 to 6 pm. Beginning Monday he stays daily through Christmas except Sundays, between 1 to 5 pm and 6 to 8 pm, inviting children to bring their lists for a greeting and a treat.
Two zoning groups prepare for a January 9 session at 7 30 p m in Sterling fire station to approve a Milton Township zoning ordinance. State official F J Droschelle helped review a detailed report and minor changes will be made before hearings. The ordinance aims to govern four land use areas across six square miles excluding Rittman and will shape building rules yard sizes lot coverage and land use for trade industry dwellings and recreation.
Morton Salt Company receives the Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement certificate from the American Society of Civil Engineers for 1963. The award honors Mortons effort in eliminating river pollution through the Ohio River Basin Clean Streams Program and the Rittman plant’s water reuse method rather than discharging into local waterways.
The city council, in an official rest for several weeks, will resume on December 30. City Manager Charles Mann will present the budget for the coming year. The Dec 30 docket includes appointments to Parks and Recreation Board Planning Commission Cemetery Board Civil Service Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals.
