Divorce Granted for Audrey Brewster of Rittman

Audrey H. Brewster was granted a divorce from John Brewster on cruelty and neglect grounds. She receives custody of four minor children, $100 monthly support, and household goods. Married in 1938, Mrs. Brewster was represented by Christian E. Rhonemus.

Final Day for Merchants Drawing Tickets in Ohio

Saturday marks the final day to purchase tickets for a $1,000 Merchants drawing. Winning numbers will be drawn Monday at the Ohio Fuel Gas office and published in the Rittman Press. Forty five prizes include top prize of $209 in script money redeemable at participating stores.

Nomination Open for Rittman Citizen of Year 1959

The Chamber of Commerce invites nominations for the Most Distinguished Citizen in Rittman for 1959. Deadline is January 10. The winner receives a $50 savings bond at the annual meeting January 21. Nominating letters should detail volunteer work. a three judge panel will select the winner.

Doylestown Shrinks Annexation Area After Council Rejection

Doylestown plans only a small annexation, rejecting the Planning Commission proposal for 2.5 square miles. Council cites funds and landowner opposition. Immediate goal is land between Gate Street and Calaboone Road north of the village. planners favor broader expansion south of town toward Dohner's Lake for manufacturing potential.

More and Better Street Lights in Rittman

Ohio Edison will erect new street lights citywide under a contract signed by the council. Howard Longworth of Edison says the brighter, more modern system is being installed by Collier Construction Company of Elyria with completion slated for December 24.

Catholic Women Meet on Dec 9 at St Marys Wooster

The National Council of Catholic Women Wooster Deanery will meet December 9 at 12 noon at St Marys Church Wooster for a covered dish luncheon and Christmas party. Door prizes will be awarded and members should bring toilet articles for gift bags for the Apple Creek party December 20 at 2 30 pm No Deanery meetings are planned for January or February.

Santa to Visit Ritt Town With 75-Foot Sleigh

Santa Claus visits in Ritt Town on Friday December 11 from 9 am to 9 pm. The event includes an animated 75-foot sleigh and reindeer float, sponsored by the Rittman Chamber of Commerce. He meets children in schools in the morning and then greets the public at the south end.

Santa Letters Headed to Rut eman Press Readers

The Rut eman Press will forward Letters to Santa Claus this week. Children request army gear, bikes, toys, and a hunting knife set. Santa will visit in front of the Rittman Savings Bank from afternoon to 9 pm with candy canes from the bank and festive lights. Chamber of Commerce leaders and William Davis hope this annual visit grows, funded by local businessmen.

Services Held For Henry Conover 70

Henry L. Conover of 210 North Seneca Street Rittman died at home Monday morning November 30 from a cardiac rupture. Born in Columbia Kentucky he moved to Rittman 33 years ago and retired after 28 years with Ohio Boardboard Company. Survived by wife Bessie two daughters Helen Mohler and Mary Ellen Stewart a son Marshall a sister Noh Jones and three grandchildren. Services were at Gillman Funeral Home Rittman with burial in Rittman Cemetery officiated by Joe B. Thompson.

Rittman High School prepares PTA Christmas Musicale

Over 300 students from Rittman High School Music Department will perform in the PTA Christmas Musicale in the school gym Thursday December 1 at 8 p.m. Grades 4 through 12 join the elementary choir cadet band mixed chorus high school concert band girls glee club and both ensembles. A pre band fourth grade group will play flutaphones. Directed by Mrs. Carolyn Warren and Eugene Shurick the program features more than 20 numbers with narration by the speech class. Admission is free and the public is invited.

Rittman Fireman’s Auxiliary to Elect Officers December 8

The Rittman Fireman’s Auxiliary will hold its election meeting on December 8. Pecan halves packaged for sale to fund activities were offered at the meeting on November 24. The club donated a Thanksgiving turkey and food basket to a local family and plans a Christmas food and toy basket for another needy family.

Buckeye Union Denied Car Damage Claim in Mott Case

Wayne County Common Pleas jury refused a 2950 dollar damage request by Buckeye Union Casualty Co of Columbus against George Mott of Creston RD 1. The insurer had paid 2950 to Benny H Boreman for a collision with Motts car after asserting Mott was left of center at a hill crest. Attorneys Grosjean for the company Logee and Lehman for Mott. Judge John D. Pincura presided.

Damages Sought in Auto Crash Case In Ohio

Doylestown resident Denzel Clevenger sues Akron driver Jay W. Shelly for 5000 alleging rear end collision at Ohio 18 and 9 east of Medina on Nov 15 1957. The suit parallels a second suit totaling 30000 by Rubhle Clevenger Utica Ohio for injuries including unconsciousness facial and neck injuries and a fractured hip from the same accident.

State Patrol recruiting drive announced in Wooster

Col D E Crago of the Wooster Post outlined an immediate recruiting push for the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Openings exist for post duty patchers and recruit patrolmen with two paths: cadet dispatcher or direct entry to the academy. Applicants must meet age height weight and moral standards and may apply weekdays 8 am to 4 pm at the State Patrol Office Route 30 West of Wooster.

Nine Scouts Set to Attend Jamboree in Colorado Springs

Rittman Boy Scouts led by assistant scoutmaster Willard Hilty will join the Fifth Annual Jamboree July 22 to 28 in Colorado Springs. Attendees from Rittman include Jerry Emch Toby Faber Gary Gardiner Scott Hilty Rollin Jones Jr Erik Kinch Jim Landis David Semler and Dick Simonton. A total of 53200 boys nationwide will attend the camp 280 Scouts from the Akron Area Council have signed up for the event.
