Engineering Associates of Wooster report finds parking meters would serve no useful purpose in Rittman beyond Main Street near the square and even there their necessity is questionable. The study explains meters deter violations and aid long term planning, but urges a coordinated system to accommodate varied parking needs.

Police and family probe motive after 41 year old Edward Burkhart of Rittman was found dead by a self inflicted 22 rifle shot in his Woodsfield backyard. Coroner ruled death by own action as relatives recall the morning events with daughter Connie recounting the door scene and ambulance call. Burkhart, a Packaging Corporation of America employee and World War II veteran, left a wife Helen and several siblings. services were held at Bauer Turner Funeral Home with Oaklawn Cemetery burial.
Red Cross drive in Rittman has collected 975.42 toward a 1200 goal. Numerous club and industry reports are still outstanding. canvassers include Mrs Karl Gillman Miss Ann Britton Miss Carolyn Sue Watts and many others.
Rittman moves to a Charter form of government with council passing measures to set up agencies and appointments. Maxine Smith Leatherman named Clerk of Council, Len Over as City Treasurer, C E Rhonemus as City Solicitor, with further appointments planned for Monday night.
Rittman police and Wayne County Sheriff crews arrested Doyle Craddock, 24, and Alton Cornell, 20, after a high speed race at over 100 mph starting on Route 5 near Orrville. Cornell wrecked near Marshallville, ejecting passenger Cheryl Kensel, 17. she was hospitalized. Craddock admitted racing. cases continued.
Community seeks old photographs of Rittman people and events for a January special edition tracing the area from early settlement to city status after January 1. Photos will be returned immediately after printing.
North Pole note says Santa Claus will travel to Rittman December 9 to 9 pm with a 5,000 treat load. He’ll visit Rittman schools in the morning then distribute prizes at the fire station on December 23. Decorations are being set citywide under Harold I Brown. Conductor John Goforth fined $50 for blocking a crossing. attorney Raven Morgan advised no appeal.

The Women's Association of the Presbyterian Church hosts a Friday bazaar with a cafeteria lunch from 11:30 to 1 and supper from 5 to 7 pm.
