The Rittman Press in Rittman Ohio starts a three week coloring contest for children ages five to 11. Each week a Santa Claus cartoon will be printed and entries must be mailed postmarked by December 18. Prizes include zipper briefcases deluxe pencil boxes and boxes of crayons with judges' decisions final.
District Governor Marvin A Miller will visit the Lions Club of Rittman at American Legion Hall on Monday December 6 to advise officers and members on Lions administration and humanitarian service. Miller leads Lions International district 13A overseeing 64 clubs in this state section and is active in court and community roles.
A local sportsman earns joy by daily feeding of wild birds and game from his yard. Birds grow tame and even feed from his hand as winter passes. A humorous note on a lingering odor mystery and a Detroit Chrysler dealer bulletin mention attendance figures from a national show.
Debra Kick sends her Christmas wish to Santa via the Rittman Press mail channel. The letter asks for multiple toys including a doll table chairs build blocks dishes and a magazine rack for mom and dad with love.
Birth notices list a girl for Doyle Chissnell in Doylestown on November 23 and a boy for Melvin Detwiler in Seville on November 23. Reece in Doylestown welcomed a boy on November 25, while Harvey Imhoff in Seville had a girl on November 27. Zivick in Ritzman and McFadden in Creston RD welcomed girls or boys on November 29, with Chaffin of Creston RD also reporting a son. A son was born to Robert Reiss at Wooster Hospital on November 30 weighing 8 pounds 7 ounces and named Michael.
Bob Burnett of DePauw University was a weekend guest of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. K. Burnett, at their home.
Final session of the Gasco Food Institute at Rittman High School showcases easy entertaining recipes. Miss Harriett Wolfe announces the event with demonstrations on homemaking and chores, including a feature dish Country Captain praised by military leaders and Eisenhower. Prizes await attendees on the last day.

In Mrs Harley Boling’s absence, Mrs Dottie Wertz presided at Rohrer Hall as 13 members of the Florence Harding council discussed the Annual Family Christmas Party set for Tuesday Dec 14. A 50 cent gift exchange and covered dish dinner at 6 pm were planned with members bringing a dish and table service for their families. Sheets for the event are available at Mrs Bertha Sherrick’s home. Second-nomination of officers occurred. Mrs E J Woyvat led Traveling Bingo during social hour. refreshments were served by Mrs Dorothy Leidy and Mrs Margaret McCamron at the close.
Members of the American Legion Auxiliary outlined a Christmas party to be held December 1 in regular session. Entertainment duties are assigned to Mrs John Thedovan Jr and Mrs Dick Wengui with others handling refreshments and prizes. The group reported entertainment for 37 veterans at Apple Creek Hospital and a later party for about 70 attendees. A Christmas party is set for December 21 and volunteers are urged to contact Mrs Swigart. A Bloodmobile visit to Rittman is scheduled for December 1 at the American Legion Home from 10 am to 4 pm.

Sam Hatten faced intoxication and disorderly conduct with costs. PimMip Hatten Jr charged for no license and parking lights issues. Napier involved in a nonsupport warrant. Private Dale Bonchoffylas-4on completed an automotive course at Atlanta General Depot.
E McConnell and Mrs Wayne Fixler are convalescing at home following recent health issues and injuries from a car crash. Joseph O’Connor is convalescing at home after surgery at Wadsworth hospital. SPC Vance Jameson returned from 14 months in Korea and Japan to start a 90 day leave with wife Suzanne and parents Mr and Mrs D H E Jameson.
The Prince of Peace oratory contest, part of Wayne Counts events, will be held during the evening service at the MAB church Sunday. The service begins at 7:40 PM and will feature five contestants. WF Mer will conduct the service with the public invited to attend.
Friendly societies and church groups across Milton announce December events including covered dish dinners on December 2 and 7, bake sales, charity showings of Baksheesh, and auxiliary meetings. Sessions feature holiday music, program talks, and contributions from members and hostesses.
The Rittman Christmas Club awards checks totaling nearly 47000 to 109 members with weekly deposits of 25 cents to 10 dollars for 50 weeks. A separate ordinance on Main Street enforces a two hour parking limit from the city building to adjacent blocks, with Sunday exemptions and revised zones.
The Chorus presents Handel's Messiah at the Wadsworth High School auditorium on Sunday December 5. Soloists include Betty Gotshal Dornan Akron soprano and Louise McLelland Wooster College, with conductor Thomas McFarren Wooster College Conservatory. Mrs Burton M M Wolf will be pianist. The concert, first staged in 1743, is sponsored by the Ministerial Association and Chambers Commerce with Rev Robert Mathes and J David Mumford named among organizers.
Rittman High Indians defeated Dasles Doylestown in both games on Saturday. The varsity won 75 to 59 while the reserve team claimed 36 to 29. Jere Gatehouse led Doylestown with 16 points.
The FOCTUN committee adds three new members bringing total to twelve as donors are urged to register for the December 10 bloodmobile visit. Church groups will handle refreshments and worker linch duties while hours run from 10 am to 4 pm. Call listed volunteers to arrange appointments or walk-ins welcome.
