Reverend Lyle W. Marvin, pastor of the Rittman First United Brethren Church, announced plans to relocate to California. He has resigned and accepted a pastorate at Arrowhead Avenue United Brethren Church in San Bernardino after previously serving in Seal Beach Long Beach. He has been in Rittman for two and a half years with two children, Lyle Jr. and Louis.
Santa asks readers to send requests as he has not received many letters this year. Publish letters addressed to Santa Claus in care of the Rittman Press so he can know what to bring. Patty Matye writes as a four year old girl asking for a big doll, nurse set, bathnet, and clothes for her brother.
A series of birth notices from Doylestown and Marshallville lists a daughter born to Mr and Mrs Elwood Forrer on November 25 a daughter to Mr and Mrs Robert Speicher on November 28 a son to Mr and Mrs Ed Deibel on November 28 and a daughter to Mr and Mrs Duane Musser on November 24 all in local communities.
C E Rhonemus, new president of the Rittman Chamber of Commerce announced Thursday he would start appointments to citizens committees for civic problems in the coming year. Ralph Overholt elected vice president. Ralph J Krabill treasurer and Russell W Frey secretary were reelected.
Miss Clara Hummel an Ohio box board office worker died Sunday night at Peoples Hospital in Akron after a short illness. Survived by four brothers P B Hummel Columbus J A Hummel Amanda Jo and William Hummel Lancaster and two sisters May Rutter and Mrs Roy Smith Ashland. Services by Rev Paul Ebert at Gillman Funeral Home Tuesday evening at 8 30. Body taken to Lancaster for services Wednesday. Interment Forest Rose Cemetery Lancaster.
Ownership of the Rittman Cash Market has changed hands this week and is now resting with Henry Trogdon brother of Sidney Trogdon former owner. No major changes in operation are contemplated at present. Henry has been assisting at Trogdon's Grocery.
Ohio Public Service Co crews string evergreen festoons wreaths and colored lights along village pillars and posts. When power is supplied the festive display will illuminate the streets of Rittman drawing Sanita and others to the area.
The Rittman Department Store tail contest ends with Melvin Troxel and Joseph Sparks tying for first place. Each submitted a pheasant tail length of 23 inches. Thirty one hunters entered tails before Fat Friday closing.
New councilman John Winkler was elected chair after Cletus Coffman’s replacement. Mayor Ritter swore in Winkler as the council heard committee reports on plant repairs and street staffing. The body approved funding for Sunset Hillcrest and Woodland avenues improvements.
More than 200 residents of Rittman received about 18500 in Christmas Club checks this year. Ralph Krabill, cashier of Rittman Savings Bank, announced the figures this week. Checks will be mailed today and vary in size from 25 cents weekly builds to as much as 500 dollars weekly. Next year's club opens today.
Mr and Mrs Fred Robinett and son Jimmy along with Mr and Mrs Roger Hessidence and family spent Thanksgiving day with Mr and Mrs Herban King at 32 N Fifth St
Rural Ohio Central Telephone customers complain about $150 to $350 installation charges under a speed up program. Mrs Mohler and Mrs Turner report long deposits and delayed service, while company officials defend progress and warn of uneven rollout. Public Utilities Commission scrutiny follows.
Marvin Bauman, of Main Street Wooster, has been appointed salesman for the C C Gault real estate agency. He passed the state real estate exam last month after earlier work at Ol 10 Boxboard Co and as an insurance salesman. Gault plans a branch office in Rittman in the near future.
Rittman telephone subscribers of the MW and O Telephone Co will pay 25c more per month for phones after Jan 1. The company filed with the State Utilities Commission and permission was granted to increase rates.
Congressman John McSweeney met Thursday in Rittman with civic leaders and Mayor elect Lew Hoover to review plans for a $200000 post office. The Post Office Department will advertise on December 15 for a site. Also noted were funeral details for the infant daughter of Mr and Mrs Neal Baker and burial in Seville Mound Hill cemetery.
Diana Theatre announces a showing of the complete Technicolor Passion Play "The Prince of Peace" on June 8 and 9 at Popular Pics. Local pastors and businessmen previewed the film this week and appeared deeply moved by the presentation of Jesus in the original Passion Play.
