A satirical column lampoons political fear with a chorus of critics mocking anti red attacks and Hoover era policy stumbles. The piece riffs on elections unemployment and media stunts while poking fun at tree sitters and rural views.
Miss Helen Faber leaves August 17 for a two week stay at Ho-Mita-Koda camp in Geauga county estate of Dr Henry J John near Cleveland. The camp serves diabetic children with no fees and relies on donors. Trained nurses monitor care and meals, with swimming and safety lessons provided.
The council met in regular session with all officials present. Erie railroad officials agreed to place flash lights at the Erie and Main streets intersection, now in full operation after Tuesday. The North Road widening from Main to the Molly Turner property was discussed with steps toward work, and Fisher allotment representatives urged more street lights, which received favorable action. The council adjourned to meet Tuesday evening September 2.
Walter Long of Ashland died suddenly last Friday from acute neu ralgia of the heart. An engineer for Ashland Water Works for five years, he moved from Rittman with his wife. He was a member of the Presbyterian church, Masons and the B of L E. He is survived by his wife and sister Daisy Cole of Marion. Funeral services were held in Ashland and West Salem. Born in Cambridge Ohio in 1882, he was 64 years old.
Secretary of State Clarence J Brown oversaw statewide primary returns air broadcast the first time in state history. The Ohio State Fair opens next week as 15 county fairs run this week with 8 more to come across major cities. State coal contracts total 306 280 tons for state institutions and buildings. Prison population sits at 4102 boarders with 4000 plus. A large kitchen luncheon and coffee service supported night workers as 40 plus staff processed results. Public health exhibit at the State Fair will offer medical service and 4 H health exams with staff available daily.
The third annual picnic sponsored by the Rittman automobile club at Chippewa Lake Park drew participation from Wasnace orphanage and local crippled children. WR Stonck, club committee chair, said 11 aides volunteered for transport and 66 attendees enjoyed meals and entertainment throughout the day. Gene Branigan of the Rittman Rotary Club will contribute to future efforts.
The Wadsworth drum corps of the American Legion captured third prize at the state national convention in Cincinnati this week. Thirty towns were represented. Howard Bair Post members Harry Heffelman William Clarke and Bud Brough belonged. Heffelman was the official delegate. The boys returned home Tuesday.
Much feasting followed the ceremony held Saturday at 11 am for Violet Hoff daughter of Mrs. Chas Miller and Steve Vignovich. Rev B G Hamilton officiated at the home of Mr Vignovich with open house for friends from Wadsworth Barberton Kenmore Akron Lorain and Rittman.
Wooster College announces opening on September 15 with registration for freshmen on that day and upper classes starting at noon September 16 Prof Arthur F Southwick registrar lists honors for the previous year noting 868 students enrolled and top scholar Gall M Lance of Rittman Ontario among the honorees 35 seniors 33 juniors 28 sophomores and 32 freshmen comprise the student body
Mayor and Mrs Hanes and their son Harold left Tuesday morning for a short vacation in Carthage Indiana They are driving through Their daughter Pauline and husband reside at Carthage.
Word from Rev R I Platter of Cincinnati former Milton Presbyterian pastor says he will fill the pulpit at next Sunday's morning service and hopes Mrs Platter attends. Mrs Platter has again eye trouble.
Rittman village council orders Akron detectives aid as Marshal Mills takes a two week leave. Cornell Ray mond Hall acts as marshal replacing Mills and supervises fire services. Mills continues secret investigations aiming to uncover fresh clues in the long unresolved Horat disappearance.
James Garver of Pleasant Home near West Salem was hit by a passing car after wandering to fetch gas. He suffered a broken hip and is hospitalized at Ashland and Mansfield state hospital. His prognosis includes possible stiffness but healing is progressing. he previously worked as a Boys Reformatory clerk and state probation officer.

Armoamk Motmie 45, of New Columbus is killed when his Chevrolet stalls on the Nis way Co crossing two miles from Rittman. A fast westbound Brig. freight train crashes into the auto, tearing ties, scattering debris, and hurling Motmie’s body 260 yards. He had worked for Ohio Voxboard for years. services planned at St. Catherine church with burial at St. Ann's cemetery. He survived by a brother in France.
John C. Schaefer joins the Fisher agency as insurance counselor last Friday. He brings over ten years in Barberton and Akron and will focus on life insurance while handling other insurance needs for the community.
Mijas Marie Cummings, 18, daughter of Mr and Mrs L H Cummings, wed Diamond Eggeman in a simple home ceremony. The couple were joined by relatives with Earl Franks and Hay Ort of the U B Church officiating. The bride, raised in Rittman, plans a trip to Pennsylvania.
