Community plans for Labor Day include a three day event with a Labor Day picnic and chautauqua. A L Ebert raised near $600,000 to ensure the undertaking’s finances, while entertainment organizers face tougher odds to secure prizes and attractions for the holiday weekend.
Mr and Mrs Russell Welling were summoned to Coshocton last Thursday by the death of Mrs Welling's father. The deceased, Mr Hittman, had been ill for under two weeks with appendicitis before passing away.
Rittman defeats Loudonville in a game Sunday with a strong lineup, local management planning to maintain current lineup for the season. After August 14, all billings due may be paid at 33 Grant Street, Rittman, Ohio.
Lotus Ulrich daughter of Mr and Mrs Joseph Pape married Alice Pape Saturday morning at St Ann's church officiated by Rev Fi Ouimet. The bride worked in Wadsworth and is well known here. The groom is employed in Akron and they plan to reside there.
Local photographer Frank Snyder and wife welcomed a baby boy weighing seven pounds one ounce at Wadsworth Municipal Hospital. Mrs Snyder, formerly Wanda Molne, is reported well. Grandfathers Fred Snyder and Cor Molne are mentioned in lighthearted fashion.
The notice announces the marriage of Schultz King A Weensetee to Boyd Ring and Felma Schultz of this parish. The bride is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Walter Schnitz, both well known locally. It also notes a Wellington game farm pheasant release with 125 birds allocated, including 21 assigned to Rittman.
Closing excerpts show the 1927 Redpath Chautauqua in Orrville ending with a deficit despite strong crowd support. Sixty patrons paid 600 dollars each and 60 sponsors were secured for next year. The 1926 session was financially better, with guarantors breaking even and 50 people signing for the next season. A free will offering aided guarantors but a full top ticket total remained elusive. Last week Tuesday morning the funeral of Mrs Magdailine Eby widow of the late Mr Eby was held from St Anna's Church in Sterling. Rev Ouimet officiated. Mrs Eby, 67, had not been well for some time. She had lived with her daughter Mrs Floyd Wright in Sterling for about a month before her death and previously in Creston with another daughter Mrs John Myers.
Mrs Norman Gelsinger has spent about three months visiting in the Bhig vicinity and Mehoning county. She departed for Plains Kansas and will spend a few days at Taylorville Illinois with friends and relatives on her way home.
A Westheffer worker known as Well Shooter Smith died Friday from injuries suffered in a methanol reactor explosion while handling preparators at a Well to Aeblaimd facility. He earned a wide reputation in his trade and was remembered for his skill and contributions.
David Wenger, a well known Wasne county figure and longtime Orville resident involved in real estate, died in Cleveland after a period of treatment. His brother Christ Wenger received word on the morning of the day of passing.
The Uhl and Kauffman shoe store, in bankruptcy, will be sold Friday afternoon at a public auction conducted by the trustee. The sale aims to liquidate the firm’s assets under court supervision.
A locally owned venture drilled a well on the Widow Zollinger farm last week and completed last Thursday. The Weatheffer Wenger well shows strong rock pressure and a gas yield of over 3,000 units, marking the first successful bore by the involved local citizens who enthusiastically celebrate the find.
The treasurer Florence Link reports over $2,000,000 in taxes collected for 1928. Details show $1,079,202.48 in the first half and $933,107.03 in the second half. The record also notes over $2,600,000 collected in tavern taxes for 1925.
