Red Cross Blood Mobile to Visit Rittman Sept 5

Announcement says a Red Cross Blood mobile will be in Rittman on Wednesday September 5 from 11 am to 5 pm. The goal is to collect about 125 pints with a past quota of around 200 donors. A recruiting committee is forming and a recruiting chairman will be at the Legion Hall first aid booth during the Aug 20 25 homecoming celebration for sign ups. The booth is run by nurse Nina Winkler.

Rittman Homecoming Week Promises Variety of Events

A week of events kicks off Monday with the crowning of the homecoming queen by Mayor John Baldwin at 8 p.m. on the American Legion grounds. A greased pig race follows at 8:30. The schedule includes a parade Wednesday evening and entertainment from the Doylestown Barbershop Quartet, Grandmothers Kitchen Band, and Old Timers Band. A $700 color TV prize will be awarded Friday by the merchants committee, and a 1956 Ford Victoria will be given away Saturday. The event is sponsored by the Rittman American Legion Firemen and Lions Club.

Fire guts house on S Main Street behind Daley's store

Firemen were called Saturday evening to extinguish a blaze that gutted the house behind Daley's store on S Main Street. No damage estimate or official cause had been released at press time.

Rittman to Host Community Football Clinic Aug 28

Rittman High School will hold a Community Football Clinic on Tuesday August 28 at 7 p.m. at the football field. The program features football demonstrations rules explanations and signals plus a band show and scrimmage between RHS players. Public admission is free and a Booster Club gathering follows for players and parents. Practice for the 1956 season begins August 20 with three boys showing interest in tryouts.

Homecoming film project to feature Rittman civic life

Rittman residents will be filmed for Homecoming Week as cameras capture schools, Rotarians, Lions Club, Post Office staff, Legion, Firemen, parade floats and bands. The finished films by Associated Film Productions will premiere at the Diana Theatre and then be archived by the Historical Society as a permanent city record.

Kenneth Zeman Named New Assistant Coach at Rittman High

Kenneth Zeman aged 22 will be the fall assistant football coach at Rittman High and junior high basketball coach. He will teach biology history and government. A three letter man from Obie University, he finished his degree this summer and is known as a college wrestler. He and his wife Eileen live in Garfield Heights.

Local Court Fines Issued for Vehicle and Traffic Offenses

Nora Morrison fined 15 dollars plus costs for operating without a license. Mary Decker fined 15 dollars for operating without a license. Frank Adkins fined 50 dollars and costs for using license plates from another vehicle. Joel Davis fined 15 dollars and costs for speeding. Lloyd Ash fined 3 dollars for a traffic light violation. Steve Kalsee charged with assault and battery and fined 10 dollars.

The paper confirms the boy on the front page is Jimmy Steiner, nine months old, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Steiner of 161 West Ohio Avenue. The earlier issue lacked his name but published his image.

Lions Rotary Golf Match Ends with Lions Victory

The Lions defeated Rotarians 46 to 22 in a charity golf match on Wednesday. Rotarian Dave Wright led scorers and Dick Barrow earned target honors while Jack Williams and F. C. Kanehl won additional awards. After the match, 20 steak dinners were served at Macrino's in Orrville with blind bogie participants named.

The last Crazy Buck auction of the current series will be Saturday at 8 30 PM north of the square. Paul Mugler promised an extra large assortment. The drawing for prizes includes an $1100 color TV and $700 in Rittman script, held Friday Aug 24 at Homecoming with present required to win.
