The Rittman board under Superintendent V K Garver will begin the new term with free English and history readers for grades 9 through 12 as state law allows. A book-return credit system starts Aug 20 from 2 to 4 30 pm. future books will join the free list over four years. Rittman American Legion Junior base ball team beat the Shreve Juniors 8-3 in a Sunday outing at Wooster fair grounds. About 300 Legionnaires and auxiliaries attended the Wayne county picnic with 75 members from Rittman post. Funeral services for Elmer W. Bechtel aged 74 were held Tuesday at 2 30 p m at his residence in Rittman with Rev E B Hendrickson officiating. He died Saturday evening after a long illness and spent 35 years in Rittman working at Welsh Department store and as a painter. He read for the Rittman band and was active in politics. Survived by his wife Mary and son Charles of Rittman. Pallbearers listed. Burial at Chestnut Hill cemetery Doylestown with A L Ebert in charge.
