New Church of Christ Welcomes Thompson as Pastor
The New Church of Christ announces the arrival of Pastor Joe B. Thompson who will begin duties on August 24 after accepting the pastorate at the First Church of Christ in Rittman. Thompson, born in Flat Rock Illinois, is a Kentucky Christian College alumnus with graduate work at Lincoln Bible Institute. He and his wife Miriam have four children, and Thompson’s prior ministry spans Frankfort Indiana Wauseon Ohio Calhoun Illinois West Salem Illinois and Irvin Kentucky.

A 17 day Beacon Journal Furonean Tour departs Friday with 33 travelers from Akron and surrounding areas. Dr O J Shong and Mr and Mrs Hubert Squibbs are among the group. They fly from Akron-Canton Airport to Idlewild, then to London for the first stop. Dr Shong will visit Europe for the first time.

Thomas Galehouse 73 dies after long illness
Thomas Gorham Galehouse 73 of Rittman died Sunday morning at Apple Creek State Hospital after a years long illness. Born in Doylestown in 1884 he came to Rittman about 35 years ago. He married Reba Mitchell in 1921 and survived by her, a sister Mrs Jessie Newbauer of Oakland Clifton and several nieces and nephews. He served in World War I and was an honorary corporal. He operated the Pennant Pool Room in Rittman for over 20 years and was active in the Howard A. Bair American Legion Post 423 and the Ohio State Auxiliary Patrol. Services were held Wednesday afternoon at Gillman Funeral Home with Rev. J. W. Plummer officiating.

Services Held for Carrie Blanton at First Church of Christ
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at the First Church of Christ for Mrs. Carrie Blanton 70 who died Saturday evening at Wooster Community Hospital after a lingering illness Born in Ivington Kentucky in 1888 she married Kelse Blanton in 1902 and moved to Rittman in 1924 later relocating to Shreve in 1946 She is survived by two daughters Mrs Matty Jackson of Denver Solo and Mrs Abbie Jackson of Cleveland two sons Caleb of Rittman and Bascom of New Lexington 21 great grandchildren and 14 grandchildren Also surviving are two sisters Mrs Zella Huff of Wadsworth and Mrs Rebecca Armentrout of Lodi and two brothers Walter Rice of Rittman and J C Rice of Quaker City Ohio Her husband preceded her in death in 1957 and a daughter Mrs Virgie Halsey died in 1956 Dr Donald McLean officiated Burial was in Rittman Cemetery.
