Rittman street opening faces condemnation action in probate

Condemnation proceedings were filed in probate court at Wooster by the village of Rittman to secure land for a new street connecting StertMng avenue and Main Street via Elliotts. Judge Jones set the hearing for Aug 8 with a jury to assess damages to property owners along the line.

Supt. Jones of the Cleveland public schools visited Rittman on Wednesday with Mrs. Jones who was formerly Miss Minnie Gish and daughter of the late J. Gish. She spent her girlhood days in Rittman and the couple has many friends there.

Foreign laborer struck by car near Ohlfo Boxboard Co

A foreign laborer working outside at the Ohlfo Boxboard Co was struck by a southbound car driven by Christie Graber at quitting time. He was briefly unconscious and taken to Dr Alexander’s office where no serious injuries were found. Graber, a Sterling resident, was driving from the company garage when the pedestrian crossed the street.

Creston Wooster Road Paving Nears Completion This Fall

County Engineer Mowery says the Creston Wooster paving will finish this fall if weather cooperates. About 350 feet of pavement is laid daily and hailed as the best road yet by Wayne county officials. When done, a near brick road from Rittman to Wooster will exist except for the Sterling Creston gap, with Sterling Creston slated for next year.

Mrs Ruth Cole of Sullivan left her home between midnight Sunday and 4 am Monday and was found on B&O tracks by a freight crew. Officials report death by her own action. she left a husband and three children including a two month old infant.

Trespass Charge Leads to Mayor Warrant in Smoyer Case

Henry Smoyer complained last Friday prompting Mayor Shackleford to issue a warrant for Platt Sigler on trespass near Mains. Sigler pled guilty, was fined $2 and costs, and has been boarding at the Smoyer home since returning from France after the war. Tensions between Sigler and Smoyer led to the charge.

New Auto Law Interpreted by County Prosecutor

County Prosecuting Attorney W G Patterson issued a statement clarifying the Atwood automobile registration law effective August 17. He says used cars bought from dealers must be registered and a bill of sale filed in the Clerk of Courts, with penalties up to at least $256 depending on the section violated.

Rittman Woman Hospitalized For Operation

Mrs. Alex Dostal was taken to Wooster City Hospital on Monday for an operation performed by hospital surgeons on Wednesday. Dr. Alexander accompanied the patient, but her condition was not definitely known Wednesday evening. The operation’s cause was not revealed.

A 13 or 14 year old girl living with her parents south of Rittman was badly burned on the head and face by steam when a kettle lid blew off. Dr. Alexander attended to the burns and has seen the patient daily. she is recovering.
