A 1922 event plan details a lottery style drawing with adult tickets carrying detached stubs and equal odds. Transportation by train and bus from Chippewa Lake depots, prizes including cash sums and a hall game, and a full day of entertainment at Chippewa Lake with food and refreshments provided.
Heavy rain delayed the meeting but Mayor and full council met with Clerk Hefleman. An ordinance prohibiting outside closets and eliminating shallow ground toilets was passed to be enforced in a reasonable time. Health and sanitation topics dominated the discussion with reports from Engineer Ditkoe of Columbus and Health Officer Barret.
This week Friday the Rattman Orchards stockholders and their families will hold a picnic at the Experimental Station Wooster in connection with the All Wayne County Farmers Bureau picnic there.
The Main Street school building is being updated with modern facilities after years of delays. Older structures lack plumbing and water, while new renovations add indoor toilets and proper water supply. The project brings two modern sanitary school buildings to Rittman.
The W T LT 28 group and the girl and boy scouts plan a grand carnival at the Park on Saturday evening September 2. Proceeds will help defray park improvement expenses.
Attention is called to a regular meeting at the home of Mrs H F Longenecker next Tuesday after 2 00 o clock The agenda includes plans for the county convention to be held in Rittman in September discussions will cover preparations and arrangements for the event.
Mr A Faeh field manager of the Cleveland Auto Club announced a delegation from the club will attend the Community Please held at Chippewa Lake Park on Saturday August 19 1922. The group will be headed by Mr Caley president of the Ohio State Auto Association.
The Richard family reunion was held last Friday in the local park, a summer gathering spot for many families. About 130 descendants from Rittman attended the dinner, with tables full of food and a planned program. Wm Conrad was elected president and Evelyn Harter secretary as officers were chosen.
About 30 members from Rittman and Sterling attended a missionary meeting at Sterling Monday evening by invitation of Rev. Burney’s wife. The program pleased attendees and included several retrequences. A Big Community Picnic is planned at Chippewa Lake on Saturday August 1 with factory and business closures in Rittman and Sterling.
Four Rittman residents A Carpenter Irving Fritz Ralph Krabll and Billy ish spent a rough night near Rocky River with no food or sleeping gear. They reportedly ate groundhog woodchuck roasted corn and a turtle while camping. A spring chicken allegedly joined their camp and did not depart, but the venture was described as fun despite the risk of hunger.
Mrs Will Brenneman fell from a chair while trying to raise a clothesline and severely sprained a knee ligaments. She remains confined to bed and unable to perform household duties.
The Shiseraburg concrete bridge contract is let to Bruce Johnston of Wooster. The 26 foot concrete bridge bids at $2,295.60, the lowest of four, with work starting immediately and completion planned before cold weather.
Wednesday morning Miss Eleanor, daughter of Mr and Mrs Ed Ghar, underwent an operation at Wooster City hospital for removal of a foreign growth in the right breast. Dr Stull performed the surgical work.
The Rittman Chautauqua Association reports a 1922 deficit of 104.60 dollars. Receipts include balance on hand 412 and ticket sales 88.00 with reserved seats 4360 combining to 941.40. Expenditures list Chautauqua contract 1000 and various costs totaling 1046.00. At August meeting guarantors were asked to pay 1.25 each to cover the shortfall.
Monday Mr and Mrs Jas Gatehouse attended the funeral of Mrs J W Hooke who died suddenly at her home in Wooster last Friday evening She was the wife of Mr L W Hooke connected with The Peoples Savings and Loan.
Harry Tiffin, a former Ritman resident, died at his Barberton home after exposure to gas fumes at the Columbia Chemical plant. He collapsed at his doorstep after working at the plant and died shortly after. Survived by his second wife and four sons from his first marriage, with funeral services held in Barberton on Monday.
J Fisher sustained a painful leg injury last Saturday while unloading lumber for unfinished residences on State Street north of Ohio Avenue. He slipped a splinter through the leg above the knee as he balanced and moved flooring to protect it from rain.
The Farm Bureau schedules a regular meeting for August 17 with talks on the value of milk, boosting business, poultry culling, bird observations, and a feature titled The Sunshine Farmer. Speakers include Mrs Hazel Woyatt Neal McCoy Miss Dorothy Shorte C M Jennings Ethel Carnahan Bernard Goffinot Florence Miller Byron A Bachtell and W I Plough.
Bud Blough pitched the full game as Rittman defeated Goodyear Wingfoots 10 to 5. The Wingfoots had previously lost to Rittman about a month earlier.
Mr. Hummel resigned his pressman position at The Ohio Boxboard Co plant effective last Saturday. He will travel for an incubator company and pursue a good proposition with the new concern. His duties will take him to various places across the state.
Corrected weekly notes show prices for Wheat Oats Eggs Butter and Packing Stock. The fragment lists oats 1.06 and 260 356 near other dairy and produce terms. It reflects a rural trade page with fluctuating commodity prices from Hershey and Rohrer for the Thursday market.
