Cleveland Browns strike ends as trades and fines reshape the roster. Capri forest fire devastates hotels and villas.
Five residents seek seats on the city council with three filed for the school board. Incumbent Musser and candidates Guiner and Lance lead the council slate while James W. Frye and Robert E. Stoll appear for the education board. Mayor Ashton Hall is the lone candidate for mayor with no petitions known.

Ohio Department of Highways reports renumbering of two routes in Wayne County near Rittman. State Route 57 extends south to US 30, replacing former Route 94 path. State Route 548 becomes Route 94 from Wadsworth to Mt Eaton at US 250. Changes aim to simplify routing with temporary retention of old numbers during transition, effective June 22, 1966 pending completion and opening of new Route 57.
Mrs Bessie C Schumacher longtime Rittman resident and secretary treasurer of the Rittman Historical Society from 1960 until illness caused resignation died at Sara Lee Nursing Home near Doylestown after a long illness She was 70 She was born in Wadsworth Township lived most of her life in Rittman She worked as a secretary at the former Ohio Boxboard Company and as a proofreader at The Rittman Press Surviving: son Jack of Rittman daughter Mrs Marjory Cole of Rittman RD and two grandchildren Her husband Edwin C died in 1936 Services were held at Brethren Church with Rev Leroy Ruble officiating Burial followed in Rittman Cemetery
Harold and Helen Hoover announce plans to demolish two houses on the Margaret Gettings property south of Rittman this winter with a barn to remain for storage. The 45 acre farm will merge into the adjacent 122 acres, with a dozer clearing brush and removing trees. The Hoovers will raise grain, maintain a dairy herd, and continue bus transportation for Rittman schools.

Prospective football players at Rittman High School will undergo physical examinations in the gym on Wednesday. Gridiron practice begins Friday at am, August 18.
Riman Volunteer Fire Department answered one fire call this week at the Joseph Ramsier farm on Mennonite Road in Rittman. The fire confined to a barn and was extinguished with damage estimated under 50 dollars by Fire Chief Ronald Goodhart.
