County library district move wins approval in Wayne County

A campaign by the District Friends of the Library groups in Rittman Doylestown and Creston succeeded with a Wooster Library Board resolution asking for a county wide library district. The plan would include all school districts served by the Wooster board while Orrville remains separate. After months of effort the campaign aims to avoid duplicate costs and ensure equal library representation across the county. A five member arbitration panel was formed and the final step is approval by the Wooster Board of Education before formal proceedings begin.

Three Run For School Board Posts In Rittman

Three Rittman men seek the two Board of Education seats in the November election. Alvin Steiner and John Winkler join Sylvan Wiles who was wounded last week in seeking posts. Steiner farms at RD Rittman and Winkler runs an insurance agency on South Main Street. Incumbents Jack Williams and Robert West are not filing for re election. Township officials will win without opposition with Paul Baker as township clerk Frank Yoder and Merle Heffelman unopposed. Yoder replaces Caleb Blanton who is not seeking re election.

Last Rites Held For Mrs. Almira Wilson

Funeral services were held for Mrs. Almira Wilson 89 of Rittman Ohio who died after a short illness Born in Pritchard West Virginia she moved to Rittman with her husband John in 1942 later dying He leaves sons Charles E Kenneth Oliver a daughter Elizabeth Lester who died in 1929 plus 16 grandchildren 30 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren Services were led by Rev J E Wheeling at the First Baptist Church and she was buried in Rittman cemetery

Fined In Court for Malicious Conduct in Rittman Case

Noah Willman of Rittman paid a $33 fine in Wooster Municipal Court last week after a malicious conduct charge. He allegedly rammed a fist through a door at his wife’s home on RD 1 in Rittman.

Village Engineer Levers Steps Down to Enter Construction

Stan Levers, village engineer since 1953 and six months full time, submitted a resignation letter stating he will stay on until September 1. The council expected to formally accept at Monday’s meeting as a search for a replacement begins. Levers resides in Wooster and plans to leave civil engineering for the construction business.

Ten Osteopaths Return To Orrville Hospital Board Reversal

Ten physicians who resigned from Orrville Osteopathic Hospital agreed to rejoin the staff following hospital board and State Osteopathic Association plans. Notables include Dr. Virgil Rose’s replacement and doctors from Rittman Clinton Doylestown Massillon and Canal Fulton.

Township Plans May Ballot Zoning Vote By Voters

Township trustees began plans to place zoning on the May primary ballot in Milton Township. Clerk Paul Baker said voters will decide in the election. In other business the board approved ditch work on rebuilt bridge roads to prevent flooding and approved four narrow road signs for Township Roads 106 and 50.

Fire damage set at $3 500 on County Road 70

Fire and smoke caused an estimated 3500 damage at the Jack Larch home on County Road 70 between Rittman and Doylestown Friday morning. Firefighters from Doylestown battled the blaze in Chippewa Township. Local fighters are not under contract to enter Chippewa.

Welcome New Arrivals In Rittman From Ohio

The Thomas Smith and Lawrence Stoller families were new arrivals in Rittman welcomed by Welcome Wagon hostess Hazel McConnell. Mr. and Mrs. Smith, 26 South Fourth Street, have two children and moved from Cuyahoga Falls. Mr. Smith works at Goodyear Aircraft in Akron. The Stollers, 21 South State Street, moved from Paulding County with four children. their daughter Joyce is married to Dale Hartzler of Rittman and influenced the family move. Mr. Stoller works for Steiner Oil in Wooster.

Deadline to Vote for Master and Miss Rittman

Ballots must be received by Tuesday August 11 at 5 p.m. Vote tallies decide the royal couple for the Mardi Gras event August 14, with attendants chosen from top finishers. Registration for the parade opens at 6 30 p.m. August 14 at the North Main Recreation Field with seven classifications and prizes for each.

Two Million Dollar Plan For Chippewa Flood Control

The Chippewa Watershed Association reports a flood control program costing about 2 million dollars with 90 percent funding from the Federal government. It proposes nine earthen structures including four dry dams and four flood dams plus a water supply dam near Orrville. If four flood dam sites are used for recreation the total could rise to about 2.5 million. Ohio Legislature recently set aside 30 thousand for a water feasibility survey.

Health exam required for new students at Rittman schools

Health examination proof is mandatory for all new students entering Rittman schools this fall. School Superintendent W. H. Hauenstein said only a parent signed religious objection statement exempts a student. The district seeks a summer science teacher and a replacement for Guidance Director Wayne Bennett.
