Rituman Spring Opening Draw Nets 14 Prize Winners

The Rituman merchants Spring Opening concluded with a prize drawing using a Ford truck and an electric washer as a ticket receptacle. First prize was $50 in merchandise certificates. 14 prizes were awarded in the first drawing, with a second drawing to follow if not claimed by May 18. Only four prizes had been claimed by press time.

Letter Announces Sale of Tailor Shop to Local Standout

Death of Irene Blough Linked to Diphtheria Treatment

Coroner investigates the death of two and a half year old Irene Blough daughter of Henry and Florence Blough in Rittman. A chiropractor treated the child until Sunday and diphtheria germs were found in the throat after experts examined a swab sent to Akron. Funeral held privately due to the discovery.

Presbyterian Church Events in Cleveland Presbytery Meeting

Rev Robin Platter and Mr L L Haney attended Cleveland Presbytery in Lakewood. Haney was elected alternate commissioner to the General Assembly to meet in Columbus beginning May 20. Exchange of pulpits planned between Barberton and Rittman pastors next Sunday. Easter cantatas scheduled at Wooster Avenue Church of Christ Akron and Boomer Avenue Church of Christ in Hillman on successive Sundays.

Fire tears into L. L. Lance home as roof burns

A fire alarm sounded in the afternoon at the L. L. Lance residence when the roof caught fire. Neighbors aided with a few bucks and water to help extinguish the blaze. The local department has seen more calls this spring than usual.

Rittman Opens Season With Big Win Over Akron Farewell Billards

Rittman base ball team opened the season with a 14 to 2 victory over the Akron Farewell Hilliards in a fraternal match. About 17 local players appeared, three pitchers worked three innings each, and the town praised the lineup as the best in its baseball history. The upcoming Farewell Hilliards game at the field is billed for 2 pm with Akron’s squad, noted for a 31 to 2 win over Medina’s American Legion.

Barberton businessman killed at Erie crossing

R V Kreider owner of a Barberton Medina and Wadaworth store chain died when his car was struck by an Erie Freight at Rhone's crossing on the cinder road late Friday night. Witnesses say he may have seen the train before impact and attempted to exit the vehicle. The bereaved widow and three children survive. Funeral services were held Saturday evening and the body sent to Driftwood Pennsylvania for interment. Kreider was about 50.

Roof Fire At Mary Horst Home Sparks Alarm

A fire department response occurred at the Mary Horst residence last Thursday evening marking a second blaze in as many weeks. A neighbor spotted the fire and a passerby carried water to the roof to extinguish the flames.

Charles Wald Purchases the Riney Tailor Shop

Charles Wald takes over the Riney Tailor Shop in Rittman from Rinehart who has run the business after moving from Canal Fulton. Rinehart plans coursework in miningology this fall, while Wald is described as energetic and likely to continue the shop and haberdashery known as Riney’s.

Gettings and Pavlic Lane Dispute Settled

A disputed lane between Gettings and Pavlic was settled by Judge Starns with Gettings retaining the portion he uses and Pavlic retaining his. The compromise capped costs at 80 dollars. Attorneys Neover and Mougoy represented the parties in a case seeking perpetual access restraints.

A severe wind event followed a tornado ravaging parts of Ohio and nearby states causing property damage worth millions and several deaths. Obituary of John Horn Wayne County Pioneer

John Horn longtime Wayne County resident died April 11 1825 from meningitis born in Milton Township 1866 moved at age six with parents to Chippewa Township where he lived the rest of his life. A quiet peaceable man he was a lifelong Apostolic Christian Church attendee. He married Busan Amstuts in 1898 who died a year later. In 1916 he married Mary Edyn Johnson who survives him. He was buried in the Apostolic Christian cemetery on Tuesday April 14. He leaves many relatives and friends to mourn his death.
