Eugene A. Sharick, Rittman High School instrumental instructor and band director, was elected president of the Rittman Education Association. He will serve with vice president D Wayne Kornhais secretary Ira Smucker and treasurer Ella Klohn. The annual banquet is set for Thursday April 28 at Loyal Oak's Brown Derby at 6 30 with Patti Witzberger arranging.
A PTA sponsored public meeting in Rittman at 7:30 p m Thursday April 21 invites all residents to learn about the May ballot school bond issue. Board president Sylvan Wiles and other officials will answer questions after an explanation with invocation by Rev Lawrence Orcena and performances by local singers. Election of officers and refreshments follow.
A house-to-house canvass by Rittman High School athletes will run Monday 7 to 8 30 PM to sell tickets for the All-Sports banquet set for Thursday May 5 in the Rittman High School gym. Speaker will be Al Van Wie from Wooster College. Tickets cost 250, issued by the Rittman Booster Club and Jaycees. The event includes the presentation of The Rittman Press trophy to top scholar and athlete and a full menu with roast beef turkey ham and sides. All you can eat is promised.
The Wayne County Vocational School topic will be discussed at Sterling PTA meeting Monday April 18. Superintendent W. H. Hauenstein will speak at 8 pm at Sterling School. Officer elections will be held. Refreshments will be served. Hostesses are Mr and Mrs Roy Wirth and Mr and Mrs Dale Wirth.
The Rittman Chamber of Commerce will meet Tuesday to study a $1,185,000 school bond issue for a new high school and to plan Industry Appreciation Week starting May 12. Governor Rhodes and Ohio Development Director Neuenschwander will attend the kickoff luncheon.
Mile Rittman High School will dismiss juniors and seniors early for a traditional banquet in Akron. Students will dress in their best, with corsages, car washes, and grooming. After a meal at the Brown Derby, they proceed to Goodyear Theatre for Most Happy Fella in a musical comedy.
William Boychi of Doylestown and 22 year old Billy Klotz escaped Wayne County jail Sunday night and were recaptured Monday near their getaway car in Ashland County. Boychi, 16, had been sentenced March 31 by Judge Leo Kindswatter to Juvenile Diagnostic Center in Columbus for arson and was awaiting transfer. He also faced charges for a barn fire on the Grant D. Sherbondy property in Rittman and a probation violation for traffic offenses.

Kent State University performing group to present the final Fine Arts Foundation concert of the season on April 25 at 8 p.m. in Rittman High School auditorium. Tickets cost 1.25 for adults and 0.50 for students. Edward Master directs the Kent State University bands. An afternoon show is planned for lower grades. Lions Club hosts a 6:15 dinner at Cleckner's prior to the concert. Tickets available through club members.
A Christian fellowship breakfast is set for Monday April 18 at Williams Restaurant at 6:30 AM with a 7:30 dismissal. The event invites church laymen of all denominations and follows a discussion period on Christian examples. Regular meetings planned for the first and third Mondays each month after two recent organizing meetings with 11 members present.
President Robert West will preside at the Wayne County Joint Vocational School Board meeting Thursday. The affair will begin at 7 30 p m at Wooster High School.
Three meetings of Wadsworth Rittman Hospital Area Association are set for next week. The annual meeting Thursday April 21 at Wadsworth Public Library will elect three trustees for three years and present progress toward a new hospital building with a building plan timetable. Coffee will be served as public attendance is invited.
Congressman John Ashbrook and Mrs. Ashbrook will attend a covered dish buffet at 28 South State Street hosted by Mr and Mrs Tom Wertz in Rittman. The event targets young people and starts at 5 30 PM. Ashbrook is a candidate in the 17th district under new redistricting taking effect January 1 and will appear on the May and November ballots.
More than 200 youngsters searched Central Park on Saturday afternoon for 69 dozen Easter eggs laid out by the Rittman Volunteer Firemen. Winners included Peggy Meade and Darrell Rufener who found the gold eggs. Other prize eggs were found by Mary Linn Brickey Joan Ramsier Jeffrey Allen Dodge and many more. Largest haul went to Larry Yoder and Tom Isaac. Firemen’s Auxiliary colored the eggs earlier in the week under Mrs Frank Burns and others.
Services for Christian Rohrer 91 were held Monday at Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Acme. He died Thursday night at his daughter’s home in Guilford Township. A retired farmer, he had lived in the area 57 years. Surviving: daughters Ruth Kuhn and Frances Acker of Sterling, son Glen of Seville, 13 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, two sisters Emma Rohrer of Rittman and Ella Rohrer of Wadsworth, a brother Frank of Wadsworth. Burial at church cemetery with Pastor James H. Nichols officiating.
Tense debate over a South Main and Salt streets parking lot led to no vote as Calabria clashed with City Solicitor Rhonemus and Mayor Hall. Officials considered tabling the matter while Frey protested paving Mary Street, citing a 10 inch base and NHA standards.
Ohio State Board of Education and the department of taxation approved the Rittman Board of Education request to place a 1 185 000 bond issue on the May ballot. State board approval makes the move legal. Funds would build a new high school on the west side. mailed facts reached households this week.
