Clarinet Quartet Wins Rating at State Contest

The RiGnan High School clarinet quartet Virginia Steele Pattie Steele Foster Swope and Clair Brickel earned first division with a recommendation to the state contest in Oberlin on April 29. The cornet trio Kenneth Forrer Kenneth Hilty and Joseph McGorry also placed first division but no state recommendation. Miriam Coppinger and Roger McGee received excellent second-highest ratings.

Garage Fire Causes Fifty-Dollar Damage in Rittman

Rittman fire department responded Saturday to a garage fire on East Olivo Avenue owned by George Rosenbaum. Fire started in waste paper stored in the garage and damage was estimated at 50 by Fire Chief Everett Winkler. Several minor grass fires occurred earlier in the week with no damage.

Publicity Director Will Address Civic Association

Frank B. Pauly of Columbus, publicity director of the Ohio Council of Retail Merchants, will address the Middletown Civic Association at a Tuesday April 1 meeting. A fish dinner will follow at 6 30 p m at the Church of Christ. Tickets are from Civic Association members. Pauly has 28 000 Ohio miles this year and was founder and long time president of Middletown Civic Association.

Orrville couple overturn car in Saturday mishap

An Orrville man and woman stood a car on end late Saturday afternoon and emerged unhurt. The vehicle, driven at high speed, failed to negotiate a curve south of the city and toppled. it ended with the car resting on its nose and the rear up against a telephone pole.

Rittman churches coordinated a union Easter service after Passion Week. The gathering was held Sunday in a local church with participation from all area congregations. Dr. Arnold Bloomfield, superintendent of Cleveland Presbytery, commented on the event.

Creston Merchant Rites Held For Ralph J. Bixler

Funeral Tuesday for Ralph J. Bixler 60 Creston merchant for years died Sunday at Lodi hospital. The service was conducted at Wooder Cemetery. He operated a grocery in Creston before retiring to open a restaurant. Two Rittman Residents Injured In Weekend Auto Mishap

Seven persons from Rittman were involved in a three car crash Sunday at 1:20 a.m. near Norton Center while en route to Harberton. David Raff Ternshal driving one car rear ended another as passing occurred. Injured were a girl taken to Harberton hospital and Beale Andurie Ochi to Wadsworth hospital. The remaining occupants suffered minor cuts and bruises. other two cars’ occupants escaped serious injuries.

Marshal Arrests Man for Disorderly Conduct in Barberton

Marshal Heffelman arrested Chester Pittman on Sunday for dis orderly conduct and fighting. Pittman pled guilty before Mayor Roy Baker and received a ten dollar fine plus costs. The marshal recovered license plates stolen from George Weber of Monroe County. the plates were taken Thursday night from a car parked on N Third Street.

School Recreation Budget Plans At April Board Meeting

The recreation board discussed an estimated $1,420 budget for recreation at the April meeting. They approved funds to hire two supervisors and provide equipment. a new gymnasium cabin is planned but not yet installed. They also considered bids for school transportation, voca tional training expansion, and fund raising to support a Washington trip.

Funeral rites conducted Friday at the Mennonite church near Rittman for Jokiv BD Musser 69 a retired farmer who died at home. Rev Enos Harty officiated with burial in the church cemetery. He survived by three brothers William Cleveland Samuel Barberton and Joseph Miarahall ville one sister Flora Burger near Doylestown and several nieces and nephews.

Kathryn Stoll 20 died Sunday after several months illness. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at St East Chippewa Church with Rev Dr Mekadden officiating. Burial in the church cemetery.
