Pvt Marvin Armbrust visited his parents Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Armbrust on Sterling Road in Rittman last week before leaving Thursday for Fort Dix New Jersey. He will ship out for an 18 month tour of duty in Stuttgart Germany. Mrs Armbrust and daughter April will remain in Stockton California for now.

Rittman firemen answered five calls last week including three grass fires and a home fire at the Pearly Robinson residence. A 2:20 pm Wednesday grass blaze north of Sterling Avenue and a 6:01 pm Thursday pole fire on South State Street are noted, with another grass fire Friday on South Hickin Avenue and a Saturday blaze near Route 604 south of Rittman. The Planning Commission will discuss a proposed minimum housing regulations code aimed at safety and sanitation, not mandatory inspections, with potential city council action in April or May.

Firemen's Auxiliary to Meet at Station April 9
Mrs Ronald Goodhart will host the Fireman's Auxiliary at the fire station on Tuesday April 9. In a recent meeting at Mrs Robert Gillman home nine members and two guests attended. The Auxiliary bought a new refrigerator for the new fire station kitchen and Mrs Holcomb won the mystery package.

R. W. Ashbrook Buried After Long Illness
Services were held Saturday for Ray W. Ashbrook age 80 of 113 South State. He died at Wayne County Hospital after a long illness. Born in Delaware Ohio he moved to Rittman in 1905 and worked 47 years at Ohio Boxboard. Surviving seven children and many grandchildren, funeral by Gillman Funeral Home. Burial in Rittman Cemetery.

RHS Choir Wins State Contest Eligibility In Ohio
Rittman High School concert choir earned a chance to compete at the state level in Columbus on April 27 after 65 contestants earned straight ones at Akron University. Directors praised the choir’s excellent tone interpretation and blending, naming two choirs in the class as outstanding.

Girl saves brother and parents in upstairs fire at Hill side home
