A late night collision on Leasveve turnpike near James ve &5key injures Mrs J E Per dys and A Babcock among others. Mrs Permar driver skidded the vehicle and struck the rear of another car. Irene Bovies and others are described as seriously hurt with reports of life threatening injuries.
Dr. Hous reports improvements in X ray work after a northern trip. A prominent High Point figure returned to Baltimore and made intensive developments under the supervision of the X ray department at General Hospital, contributing to instrument improvements.

Charlotte Oct 4 The American Federation of Labor launches a sweeping campaign to unionize over 600000 textile workers, mainly in the south with aims extending to Pennsylvania and New England. Thomas F McMahon reports strong employer opposition and calls for reform of wages housing and sanitation while noting 60 percent of workers are women ages 14 to 20.
Pete the rooster, picked up in Brest France in July, is still a mascot with the troops despite gassing at the front and fading eyesight. Joe the Shepherd dog also travels with the artillery across the state, noted for good sense and training. A monkey and other dogs accompany the party as mascots.
Wesley Cooper, a 50 year old Black farm hand from Gwinnett County, confessed to killing W. A. Cooper, a well to do farmer and banker, at the Fulton County jail deputies say. He had worked five years for the banker and allegedly shot after a dispute over cotton picking.
Mrs A S Melton died last Saturday after a brief illness at her daughter Mrs J H Yow's home several miles from High Point. She was 85, a Chatham County native, had lived in Greensboro for years, and died while visiting her daughter. She is survived by several children.
About 300 Gelemates will be housed for the Methodist Episcopal conference in Webster city. Rev W A Lambeth announced that 500 delegates are expected October 19 with Bishop A V W Darlington presiding. Hosts provide lodging and breakfast while meals are covered by hotels or cafes. 200 homes are still needed. Some homes may come from other denominations and are gratefully welcomed by Mrs O E Kea, chairwoman.
Wick Moore a well known local barber was given a preliminary hearing in police court Friday on charges connected to a brutal morning attack at his home. Prosecution showed probable cause and Moore was ordered held for the Guilford Superior Court on bond. Elizabeth Moore his wife testified about the assault on her and their three children while Officer Will Cecil described the scene after the call. The defense offered no testimony and Moore claimed he was asleep and unaware of the acts.
After months of stop the clock in front of the Wachovia Bank and Trust building on North Main Street is now keeping time. An expert from the factory examined the piece and repaired it this week after the clock had stood still awaiting service.
Bellevue Hotel on West High street will reopen after months of vacancy. Owner Arthur Kirkman plans stucco work and major improvements to restore the property as a modern hostelry with 31 rooms. Work starts immediately. occupancy date not announced. Also born is a son to Mr and Mrs L Fururguson on October 4.
Fire Chief A. B. Horney approved 37 building permits in September totaling $63,250. Most were for dwellings or additions, with many store and garage projects. October notes include new permits on Jordan Street, Hamilton Street, Thistle Street, and various other residences and commercial buildings with values ranging from a few hundred to several thousand dollars.
Colonel Tom Wood and Colonel William Wood from High Point and Ashboro will travel to Chattanooga Tennessee for the Confederate veterans reunion slated October 25 to 27. They are joined by Miss J Irwin Paydor if she accompanies, with invitations extended to Marshal Foch Viscount and Viscountess Astor. A newborn 8 pound 8 ounce boy was born to Mr and Mrs Thomas R Allen of South Main Street on October 3. Frances Hoffman is the mother.
Willard M. Dyer of High Point answers Nina Barnes Dyer's complaint alleging cruelty and support neglect. He denies mistreatment, cites health reasons for alleged restraint, admits past drinking but claims sobriety since 1921, and accuses Mrs. Dyer of immoral conduct with Lacy W. Seawell. He seeks dismissal, custody for the couple’s four year old son Jarrelyn, and costs.
The fourteen member concert class from the Oxford Masonic orphanage will perform in the High School auditorium on October 10. Plans aim for a large audience to welcome the parentless children. The group has grown each year, with 1920 net receipts of 41431.17 and is praised for its entertaining and efficient shows. Proceeds aid the orphanage’s work and revenue.
W H Watkins a white man claiming ownership of a Ramseur cotton mill faced a municipal court hearing after his car crashed into a Ford with I L Booth aboard on Spring Garden Street near the North Carolina College for Women in Greensboro. Judge Royal imposed a $50 fine.
Jim J. May of Davidson County sues Z. B. Morris E. J. Mungo and G. J. James of Guilford seeking 10000 in damages alleging a night time wrongful arrest at his Davidson home about March 11 1921. He claims he was forced from bed handcuffed transported to High Point with pistols and threats and later released after being told he was not the guilty party. He questions the warrant lacking proper signature authority and accuses malice and false arrest. He seeks 3000 actual and 7000 punitive damages over alleged chicken theft involving a High Point warrant.
High Point Rotary members wrote personal letters urging seniors to continue studies and graduates of seventh grade to enter high school this year. Only four pupils did not respond, and one letter was returned to the writer.
High Point high school basketball program shows promise as Coach Knight plans to mold a strong squad this fall. Spring practice will begin soon and a new basketball court at the eastern negro school building will host practice sessions. Several last year varsity players will return in jerseys.
