P L Culler of Greer Street store repelled a late Sunday night robbery. A white man was wounded after entering through a window during the attempted theft shortly after 1 am Monday. Police seek two robbers believed involved as Culler fired to defend his property.
Mr and Mrs W F Motsinger announce the marriage of their daughter Grace Leora to Hubert Payne son of Mr and Mrs R E Payne of High Point On May 11 at 7 30 pm the ceremony was at Rev G H Moton s home in High Point A few relatives attended and the couple left for a trip to Asheville The bride wore a blue coat suit and guests included Beulah Moton Ernest Burton Clara Payne Gorrell Payne Pearl Motsinger and others
Mrs. Eula Croft and John Thomas along with Miss Mamie Whitt Walter Whitt and a small child were injured when their car rolled over three times near Danbury while returning to High Point after visiting a relative. None suffered serious injuries.
Mrs. Elvinia Swaim Gordon wife of A. A. Gordon died at her Greensboro road home aged 81. Funeral Monday at 10 with Rev J M Hilliard at Oakwood Cemetery burial. survivors include husband five sons two daughters and sister Elizabeth Mendenhall Archdale. She joined Missionary Baptist then First Baptist church here.
City Council meeting Tuesday night elected City Manager R. L. Pickett City Attorney Dred Peacock Recorder Walter Royal prosecuting Attorney T. W. Albertson City Collector W. L. Smith Superintendent of Streets J. D. Koontz Chief of Police J. W. Blackwelder Officials for lights and water and several policemen were not named at the session.
Frederic A. Cummings is expected to become executive officer of the High Point community service if the executive committee accepts board recommendations. Directors praised his work and noted his strong background, while the group reported over $3,000 raised toward a $5,000 goal as efforts to expand membership and support continue.
Rev. Claude C. Jones of the Christian church in Greensboro preached at the Junior order hall Sunday and announced a series of meetings to start Monday night at 8 oclock in Harriss hall on Washington street. The piece also notes a playful aside about a kiss and a remark on fair versus unfair prices.

Miss Lottie Barber served as secretary.
Washington reports General Pershing will assume the duties of chief of the general staff and head of the army on July 1, while remaining head of the general headquarters. Maj. Gen. Peyton C. Marsh will be relieved, with Maj. Gen. James G. Harbord named assistant chief of the general staff.
Justice of the Peace R K E Andrews has opened offices at 109 West Washington street opposite the sheriff's office. His telephone is 488 and he also holds notary public duties.
Postoffice workers at High Point receive Army Colt pistols holsters belts and ammunition from the Post Office Department to protect mail service. They may carry revolvers on duty without local permits and will shoot to kill if necessary. Night staff to remain vigilant as warnings go out from Washington.
Local committee plans entertainment as the North Carolina conference Methodist Protestant board of education visits High Point on Friday at 1 PM to hear city claims for a denominational college. Kent Greer escaped from a Virginia state prison farm last week and is at large. He was reported to have been in High Point last week. A $50 reward is offered for his capture.
Funeral services for E. M. Brower were held Monday afternoon at 3 o clock in First Methodist Church. Brower aged 45 had long resided in the city and conducted a mercantile establishment at New Main and West Washington streets. He is survived by his widow and one child. Interment followed at a local cemetery with bearers W C Jones W W Idol E Lindsay W C Beav ens B Hedgecock and W Francis Staley.
