May 10 Thomasville The Standard Chair Company's plant No 2 on Main street was wiped out by fire around 7 pm. A lantern blamed for the blast ignited the boiler room and swept the building. Memorial Day was observed in High Point with bank closures but normal business. The highlight was a Confederate veterans luncheon on North Main Street hosted by the United Daughters of the Confederacy. After lunch the veterans traveled by automobile to the cemetery to decorate the graves of their comrades.
