A writer recalls his birthday celebrated with David A. Welborn of Thomasville Route 1 at Mt. Pleasant Church. Rev. C A Cecil preached a fine sermon, a long dinner followed, and a farm walk impressed guests. Welborn turned 79, with many attendees and a day of nature and quiet worship. The writer and Mrs. Lee Payne attended with Mr. Payne's mother.
Mrs Alfred Scales Galloway 33 a prominent local figure perished saving her three children Lou 8 Charlie 5 Alfred Jr 2 from a blaze that consumed their Main Street home around 3 am. She knelt by the bed as the flames trapped them. two roomers escaped unharmed. Her husband a traveling salesman, Eva Harris Galloway. The cause of the fire remains unknown.
The local lodge marked the 100th anniversary of Odd Fellowship in América with services at East Commerce street hall. Members and wives attended along with speakers and musical features followed by lunch. Chaplain Turner visiting from the 120th Infantry was noted. Col Cox spoke at Rose Theatre Friday and again at the auditorium for The Price of Peace war picture.
On Thursday May 8 an institute for Randolph and upper Guilford counties Sunday schools will be held in Asheboro. C W Woosley directs under Presiding Elder J H Barnhardt with M W Brabham and Miss Marie Hansen assisting. The event, one of 12 district institutes, invites the public to attend morning and afternoon sessions.
High Point voter registration for the May 6 city election rests at 1,278 as of Saturday, far below typical totals around 2,200. Businessmen plan a-May 7 mass meeting to discuss a new ball park and funding, while Greensboro votes shift in the municipal primary with Stafford and Murphy trading leads.
City of High Point sues Myrtle Pickett and others in a special proceeding for condemnation of 8.6 acres in High Point township Guilford County North Carolina. Defendants including Oscar Hoskins and unknown spouses must appear before Clerk M W Gant in Greensboro by May 31 1919 or face court relief.
Mrs. Elizabeth N. Vipperman widow of Rev. J H Vipperman died after a long illness at her Greene Street home in her 75th year. She was active member of Greene Street Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband two sons Rev J L Vipperman D D of Dallas and David M Vipperman of Elm City and a daughter Mrs R L Winfrey. Funeral held Tuesday at Greene Street Baptist Church with burial in Oakwood cemetery.
W L Stamey asks voters to support him in the May 6 election. He seeks unity and a strong bond among citizens while pledging faithful service and a forward path for High Point. He urges every citizen to vote on May 6. April 20, 1919.
A statement from Mr. Ingram to High Point residents declares accord with the current hog pen provision in city ordinance and clarifies his candidacy stance for councilman from the third ward. He addresses supporters and the public on city livestock zoning.
W L Stamey disposed of his valuable Cameron Park lot in Raleigh to Dr G M Cooper of the State Board of Health. The lot was among the most fashionable sections of Raleigh and awarded to Stamey years ago for winning a newspaper contest. The price is not disclosed.
F P Conrad declares candidacy for City Councilman in High Point Fourth Ward. He vows to serve the city fairly and in its best interests if elected, addressing the concerns of friends and citizens.

The twelfth annual meeting of the Juniors of the thirteenth district concluded in Randolph and Guilford counties with a public session at the Junior hall on East Commerce street. Numa R. Reid of Wentworth spoke on The Principles of Our Order and Ramseur council won the bid to host the 1920 district meeting.
Miss Clara Steele and Wade A. Marsh eloped and wed at the Methodist parsonage in Greensboro with Rev. E. L. Bain officiating. Widely connected, Mrs. Marsh is the daughter of the late W. B. Steele, while Mr. Marsh hails from the Marsh furniture family. The couple will honeymoon visiting New York and Philadelphia before returning home.
Landis Johnson age 65 died Friday afternoon at his Adams street home after a two day illness caused by paralysis. He is survived by wife Nancy M Johnson, daughter Dora, and five sons Levi William Grant and Marvin Johnson. Funeral held Saturday at 2 pm from the Adams street residence with Rev J M Hilliard officiating. interment in Springfield. J G and Louis Ryan returned Friday from Lynchburg to attend their brother in law William J Matroni's funeral.
The City Council approved a juvenile court to try youthful offenders at once. The Review supports protecting youths from hardened criminals and believes kind and forethinking authority can steer them toward become useful citizens. David H. Parsons named as the first judge of mercy, to take on the first case.
High Point athletes travel to Chapel Hill on Friday to compete in a state meet featuring multiple high school teams. Eccles Everhart will run the 100 yard dash 120 yard low hurdles high jump broad jump and participate in the relay. Howell Albertson runs the 440 yard dash the mile and the shot put. William Lee Smith is entered in the 880 yard run the mile and the relay. Leslie Andrews competes in the 880 and shot put. Lawrence Hauser runs in the relay.
The deciding contest between Chapel Hill and the University of Virginia will be played at Cone Park Greensboro on Saturday May 3 after Virginia won the opening game at Greensboro and the second game at Chapel Hill ended in a 10 inning draw while Carolina swept Virginia at Charlottesville a big crowd is expected to attend.
