High Point council awards 86000 for modern water plant

The High Point City Council in extraordinary session approved three bids to build a modern water plant costing about 86000. R K Stewart and Son of Farmville Virginia won the main contract for the filtering building and piping. Morris Machine Works Baldwinville New York received the pumps and motors bid of 4320 and Pittsburgh Filter Company Pittsburgh Pennsylvania won the filters bid of 21400.

Fire truck near miss saves train derailment

C E Nabors yard foreman of the Southern Railway prevented a collision between a fire truck and the Asheboro train on extra 700 by quick action. Railroad officials led by superintendent A D Shelton commended him for averting a serious derailment. Col D H Milton, Soldiers Home chief, visited, taking home veteran Pat Brooks. Easter in High Point featured the usual parade and W L Stamey won the Second ward race.

Woman Shot on Front Porch by Motorcycle Stranger

Early Wednesday a man on a motorcycle shot Mrs. Chas Pratt in the thigh and fled toward Thomasville after threats against her. Sheriff Stafford and deputies investigated as rumors and conflicting statements circulated about the incident and timing. Easter Monday observances and local show are noted in brief surrounding items.

Notice to merchants on narcotic tax registration

Collector Watts requires all sellers of narcotic preparations to register and pay a $1 annual tax. Most merchants, especially country traders, likely sell taxed items like Paregoric and Godfrey's Cordial. Obtain the registration form from the collector, complete it, and return with $1 promptly. Also notes concern over high school enrollment trends and J. W. Pike resigning from Hart Drug Co. to join Concord drug store.

Jitney and Ford Crash on Greensboro Road Injures Elderly Woman

A Saturday collision near Frank Ford Place left an elderly woman named Jorden in the Ford touring car seriously injured and taken to the hospital. The three abreast passing on a narrow road caused the crash, with Mrs J R Reitzel’s car parked at the roadside. Both vehicles sustained damage.
