Washington reports Congress adopted by a 56 to 25 vote the Susan B Anthony constitutional amendment granting equal suffrage. The measure, previously approved 304 to 89 by the House, now goes to the states for ratification by three fourths of them.
Mayor D A Stanton and Council member John W Hedrick traveled to Greensboro Saturday morning to attend to details of condemnation proceedings aimed at acquiring property to enlarge the city water plant near Jamestown.
Miss Leora Billie Hiatt and Houston B Hiatt Jr along with Mrs H B Hiatt have returned from Clinton after several days of visiting.
Pittsburg June 4 Robert Johnson president of the I W W and noted radical was arrested after opening fire on detectives at the I W W headquarters. Shots were exchanged and Johnson fired a revolver as officers entered the third floor building with a key from a suspect in the bomb explosions.
Beginning Monday June 9 and through Monday June 16 an income tax officer will be stationed in High Point by Internal Revenue Collector A D Watts to assist taxpayers with final returns and to collect at least half of the tax due. The officer will operate from the second floor of the post office building for corporations partnerships fiduciaries withholding agents and individuals who have not filed their final returns.

Rev. J. O. Atkinson field secretary of missions for the Southern Christian Convention spoke at Elon College and delivered the dedicatory sermon Sunday at 11 o clock at the First Christian Church.
John W. Moon, a well known local, was arrested early Wednesday in this city after arriving on No. 37 and going to his home. He faces a bigamy charge for marrying twice, with wife No 2 reportedly from Georgia. Moon is jailed on a $2,000 bond awaiting trial before June 16 criminal court starts, facing potential lengthy imprisonment if convicted.
A 1919 Ford runabout owned by R. R. Ragan was stolen Tuesday night while parked in front of the Chautauqua ground. License 2676 and motor number 2965821 are associated with the vehicle.
The Republican editors state wide met in High Point to organize the North Carolina Republican Press Association with Giles Mebane as president and J. B. Goslin as secretary. Officers include F. A. Leslie M. Shaw former secretary of the treasury and two term governor was guest of honor at a Commercial Club smoker Saturday night. Hundreds of citizens met the prominent banker and ex public official who spoke in joint debate at the chau tauqua grounds.
William Cox a switchman for the Southern Railway Company had a close call when a shifting engine struck him while he opened a switch to a spur track. He suffered bruises and the loss of a toe requiring amputation.
As the furniture exposition approaches, High Point requires additional lodging for 200 to 500 visitors. Plans point to locating a new large hotel to meet the surge in expo traffic.
Closing exercises of James Town High School were held Tuesday with large crowds in attendance. Chautauqua attractions were interesting, helpful, and well attended.
The First Christian Church in Elon College area was formally dedicated Sunday with Dr. J. O. Atkinson presiding. The program included hymns, prayers, a historical sketch from 1914, scriptural readings, offerings, and a sermon by Atkinson. The Stamey medal for the top seventh grade average was awarded to Miss Madge York on the final day of the term. Superintendent A A Taylor presented the prize, intended to encourage grammar grade pupils entering high school.
Willis Booth county auditor will supervise revaluation in Guilford County to align 1920 revenue with the Gray-Doughton act. Old assessment places taxables at about 40 million dollars, with 1920 estimates near 120 million. rate reductions are expected after the revaluation and a forthcoming general assembly action.
Guilford County to fill the new public welfare superintendent post created by the 1919 act. The winner, chosen by the board of county commissioners and the board of education with state board approval, will serve as chief probation and school attendance officer. The position, governed by early start aims, pairs with the county board of welfare members E. S. Wills, Miss Clara I. Cox, and Dr. Newton Wilson.

Mr and Mrs Rodney Snow return to the city after spending their honeymoon in western North Carolina. Mrs Snow formerly Miss Virginia Henley daughter of Dr and Mrs F A Henley. The couple were married in Charlotte where the bride was visiting in May.
