K T Amos of High Point sues Southern Railway for 1000 in damages and 1000 in punitive damages after a freight engine struck his automobile when gates were up and no warning sound was given at a High Point crossing. He attempted to move the car but could not clear the track.
The editor visits Chester South Carolina a six thousand population town serving as county seat with thriving trades and many large stores. Chester’s baseball fame brings serious town pride and local businesses close shop to cheer. The 1912 to 1913 construction linked Thomasville Denton High Rock with major rail lines and established joint tracks at High Point. C. W. Lane & Co. handles building while W. N. Coler & Co. oversees engineering from High Point.
Chas Gheen respected High Point resident dies after months of illness at age 55. His remains were taken to Pennsylvania for burial in Limestone Cemetery via Limestone Valley, with nurse Mrs Green and associates Clarence A. Smith and R. B. Gardner of American Wood Working Machinery Co. Gheen married Harrett Ghenn Hartsell in 1902. The death brings sorrow to many friends. Henry Easley, NC Association president, plans a home for blind women and calls a Home Committee session for August 4.
The High Point finance round reports $100000 in city bonds sold at par with accrued interest. Purchasers include National Travelers Protective Association via C F Tomlinson, I G Lawrence, Commercial National Bank, and a $50000 water and sewerage bond loan. Funds enable extensive school, water and sewer improvements. Supt Thornwell Haynes will move to the Miss Pattie Newlin residence. Thos J Gold and R L Pickett visited Washington over a candidate for the High Point post office. Freight rate talks hint Gov Craig may push legislature to act in an extraordinary session. Dr John McPherson, who died by his own hand near Liberty, married Pearl Lee on East Washington Street.
