Automobile Turns Turtle Near Arch Hill Jamestown

A Ford owned by J. Sarrell of Cary turned turtle Friday evening above Arch hill in Jamestown, demolishing the car. Eight people were in the vehicle including three small children. no serious injuries. A child sprained an ankle and Mr. Sarrell had a bruised hip. Dr. H. W. McCain attended the wounded and they continued to Thomasville to visit relatives.

Murder at Benditon: Gertrude Johnson Surrenders

Saturday evening in Benditon a woman named Gertrude Johnson stabbed Hattie Bennett in the heart with scissors. Johnson turned herself in at police headquarters after a lengthy manhunt. she says she acted to keep Bennett away following a flogging and denies intent to kill. Bennett is described as a known dope fiend. Johnson is held for court after a preliminary hearing.

Trial of English Makes Fine Progress in Asheboro Court

In Asheboro on July 22 Judge Long began the State versus Lorton English trial for the Armstrong killing at Archdale on March 24. Jurors were chosen after a continuance request, with five State witnesses heard by 4:30 pm. The defense argues insanity and the case is expected to run into Friday.
