A Washington dispatch reports Missouri conditions worsening with high labor wage claims and unemployment. The Linney nomination clears a Senate judiciary committee vote favorably, signaling possible confirmation.
W. Parker of Charlotte, president of the State Council of Carpenters, met in High Point to map the annual conven tion and convention schedule. The state federation of labor will hold its gathering August 8 to 10, with leaders predicting record attendance and an elaborate program.
G C Summerall, white, was badly cut and suffered possible skull fractures after a wagon carrying his wife and four children was struck by a car near High Point. He was taken to a hospital for treatment while his wife and children were not harmed. The driver reportedly fled the scene.
Main Street Methodist church Sunday School planned a picnic at Guilford Settleground near Greensboro. About a hundred members traveled by auto for the annual outing led by Superintendent Davis. Last week 431 attendees set a record.
In a police court session Saturday and Monday, about ten suspects were rounded up in a gambling raid. Among actions, several drivers paid half the costs for operating cars without rear lights, while others faced vagrancy or disorderly conduct charges. A few were acquitted or jailed, with Kinney appealing after a $15 fine for affray.
The state tried J. D. Sitterson and A. Edwards for assault with a deadly weapon in municipal court on Tuesday morning. Sitterson fined 50 dollars plus costs. Edwards fined 25 dollars. Warrants originally named intent to kill but were amended to assault with deadly weapon. The case drew notable local interest.
The will of R. B. White who died July 13 1921 in High Point has been probated naming widow Mrs Georgia White and son Lawrence White as executors. Real estate valued at 40500 and personal property at 1590.
Louis Fine of Poland with daughter Sabina Orenstein and two grandchildren arrives in High Point to live with son Harry Fine. He recalls bunkers and a cave exile during Polish turmoil, praising American freedom and welcoming life in the United States after 30 years visiting, now planning permanent residence.
Seventeen realty exchanges were filed in the Register of Deeds office at High Point. The largest transaction involved a west side Asheboro street lot sold to J B Jor and wife for 9650 by Roy D Smith and wife. Other High Point filings include transfers among A A Lindsay O A Kirkman W D Simmons and variations of Kirkman and Simmons properties on Sheraton Hill South Main and Bellevue areas with nominal sums and other considerations.
J L Sechrest of this city displayed a goose egg sized shell containing a second normal egg inside with the white between shells. The hen is reported normal and healthy despite the unusual feature. Next!

Spencer July 25 Improvement reported today in the condition of Miss Willie Mae Stone Spencer and Mrs A L Petree Greensboro who are in a Salisbury hospital suffering from injuries from a collision on a city street yesterday The other car was driven by J Lee Stone Granite Quarry and the Petree party were en route to Charlotte while Mr Stones party headed to High Point All vehicles were badly damaged Bertie Petree suffered a knee cut and Dr Petree was shaken but not seriously injured.
Morganton July 25 funeral services were held at Mount Pleasant church for Mrs. Sidney Kincaid who was stabbed by her husband Tuesday night near their Burke county home. The accused, Gary Kincaid, showed deep grief and little concern for his fate, while his mother in law and sister in law defended him. No preliminary hearing date was set as Solicitor Huffman was delayed.
The parks and playgrounds committee led by Miss Nellie Muse secured donations for six foot wrought iron benches at the band stand on North Main Street. Local manufacturers and citizens supplied the seats, creating a permanent rest place for farmers, their wives, and other visitors, marking a step to honor the human side of city life.
City Health Officer E. J. Mungo leads a comprehensive survey of the High Point watershed circling 140 miles around Deep River to map population, livestock, and water sources. He notes farm cleanliness northern border areas and urges city and rural cooperation to keep water pure as Deep River remains steady and growth pressures water supply.
Julian Hayworth age 19 died Friday after injuries from a Randolph county auto truck rollover weeks earlier. He lived at 501 Mangum avenue and worked at Thacker's pressing club. Survived by his mother Adeline Fitcher and three siblings. Funeral Sunday at 3 p.m. Fiends church pastor Rev Samuel L Hayworth officiated. Interment Oakwood cemetery.
Roger-Ferguson Company contractors announced concrete paving on the Winston-Salem road will start soon as grading has begun though equipment delays slow initial work. Grading should finish ahead of machine setup with a railroad casing and gasoline locomotive to be used. The ten and a half mile concrete road aims to be a modern regional thoroughfare.
High Point will intensively inspect city milk following a council decision after discussion. Dairymen C C Robbins F H Mendenhall and H C Willard expressed support for cattle testing led by city veterinarian Dr C A Jones who will begin soon. Licenses to sell milk were discussed with limits on surplus milk and annual licenses for large producers.
Mr Frank Motsinger recently hospitalized in Winston for stomach cancer surgery with poor prognosis. Miss Lou Hine remains seriously ill. J L D Wyes suffers long term head trouble and severe pain. Showers and rain persist with tobacco crop concerns and farming activity shifting to wheat. Miss Snard injured in school accident and has been hospitalized. she is now able to be seen outside.
Mrs. J L Harrison of Fayette I s died Saturday morning in a Baltimore hospital where she had gone for treatment. The notice says she died after a brief illness as stated by her brother-in-law R Harrison. Funeral services were held in Mt Airy.
