A lengthy critique argues against a promoted movement to vocationalize poor children's schooling. It cites an American city with four trade shops for boys over fourteen, funded by the state at a fraction of other education, yet few enrollments and high dropout rates. Similar sparsity and limited impact are noted in efforts in Massachusetts and a state memorial school, revealing little demand for widespread trade schooling and skepticism toward motives tied to child labor concerns.
