Deputy Sheriff J. E. Wagner was struck by Train No. 38 at the Alma Furniture Co crossing in Asheboro while driving a Dodge car. His vehicle was hurled fifty feet down an embankment but he survived with a dislocated hip and a head gash, expected to recover in two weeks.
Ex Mayor Tate supports a grand parade to stir patriotism with Home Guard and returned soldiers, brass band, and more. Raleigh February 18 Special Agent Glenn Young has not been fired and will remain with the government in a new capacity. Washington says the war department will take over desertion cases, and Young will perform general investigations in the justice department.
Deputy J E Wagner and Deputy Kilby seized the base of supplies and operator of an illicit distillery near the city center. Joe Byerly, found with 50 gallons of beer, was held on a $300 bond for Federal Court appearance after a hearing before Commissioner Warren G Brown. The still itself could not be located.
The High Point Insurance and Real Estate Company was organized with authorized capital of $100,000. Officers are A. Sherrod as president R R. Ragan as vice president and W. R. Morrow as secretary and treasurer.
Local citizens vow strong resistance to Forsyth efforts to annex part of Davidson County. Petitions are being prepared for signatures to be sent to the legislature in protest, with Abbott’s Creek area residents favoring Guilford County if any change occurs. The editor notes little chance Forsyth will win any portion of Davidson.
The surgeon general office in Washington distributes a claimed cure for pneumonia as an absolute remedy. Instructions advise saturating cotton with spirits of alcohol and chloroform, placing it between the teeth, and inhaling fumes in cycles for 24 sessions to expand the lungs. No verifiable medical endorsement is provided. Also notes a local furniture job change, reader correspondence, and Guilford defeating High Point 26 to 16 in a basketball game Friday night.

An office at E Washington and Main has been secured and a five member committee will vet secretary applicants. Directors include W C Idol chairman A E Tate A B Caldwell Jr Charles F Tomlinson and J H Adams.
The residence of John W. Hayworth on Howell Street burned last night around ten o clock. The family escaped with their lives but lost nearly all belongings. Insurance covered about 1000 dollars while the total loss nears 2500 dollars, impacting Hayworth, son in law of Mr and Mrs David A Welborn of Thomasville Rt 1.
Premier Georges Clemenceau of France was shot in the shoulder Wednesday morning by a Russian nihilist. The aged leader is believed to recover due to strong vitality. the assailant was quickly captured.
The chairman W. Idol is actively securing a Secretary for the Chamber of Commerce. Steven Clark travels to Asheville for a month seeking health improvement. Prof. Claude Smith shows signs of improvement after fighting rheumatism.
