The High Point newspaper item urges citizen rule through popular elections for recorder and school board. Lane of this city sues Rankin Register of Deeds for issuing a marriage license that united his daughter, then under age, in marriage against his will. The court ruled against Lane and he appealed to the Supreme Court.
The statement argues that residents should elect the recorder and school board rather than a privileged few. It champions democracy and opposes centralized power, asserting the people are capable of choosing their leaders and directing local government.
Legislature notes a 92 to 2 vote for six months term in public schools across counties. Editors say two remaining measures freight rate adjustment and child labor law await action. New law classifies motorcycles with autos and requires tax hangers. Child Labor Law passed by the House is criticized as a farce with essential features cut out.
Francisco I Madero was seized at the national palace by General Blanquet and removed from the presidency. General Huerta was proclaimed provisional president as Madero and his brother Gustavo were arrested. Ernesto Madero escaped after learning of the coup.

Mr J A Hart and associates bought the Ring Drug Co branch on South Main Street. Hart will take active charge and the store will likely be named Hart Drug Co. Plans to move main store duties to Winston or Asheville's Mr Sewell changed. Hart will stay in the city.
Hon D L James of Greenville delivered a highly praised address at the Red Men memorial exercises. The piece lauds the speaker’s oratory, describes the theme of Fraternity, notes excellent choir music, and mentions Leary’s equally fine remarks.
Last night the Qhickasaw Tribe No. 32 Improved Order of Red Men held memorial exercises in honor of its dead in its wigwam. Past Great Sachem Stamey presided with speakers Hon. D L James of Greenville and Rene Wm Leary Sr of Edenton. Great Sagamore Flanagan of Greenville could not attend. A select choir provided music and tribal ceremonies preceded the speaking.
The program lists musical numbers and speeches for a tribal ceremony. Performances include Duet Some Day by Mrs Kephart and Miss Idol, invocations, a Roster of the Dead, Our Pledge, and The Great Spirit songs. Speakers include W L Stamey and J L Snyder with remarks by the Prophet and Hon Wm J Leary.
The High Point Motor Company will add a 26 by 100 foot addition to its current building. The new facility will house offices show rooms repair and rent shop dressing and bed rooms and allow a much larger stock of automobiles.
Mr. H C Field has disposed of his home place next to the Elwood Hotel at a good price. It is understood the property will be used for the erection of a modern vaudeville opera house with construction to begin in the early spring.
The newly completed addition to the Durham Hosiery Mills presents an imposing brick structure, well lighted and modern in every respect, enhancing the mill complex.
Mr. A P Tilley who has been with the Marler Dalton Gilmer Company of Winston will open a new mercantile concern in High Point occupying the Allen Brothers store around March 15. The new firm, Tilleys Emporium, will offer a general line of dry goods and ladies furnishings.
The Stewart Family mileage Bill was killed by the Senate on Tuesday. Taft is expected to veto the Webb liquor bill for constitutional reasons, despite appeals from Gov. Craig and others. The immigrant bill passed the House over Taft’s veto, challenging the president on the immigration issue. The piece notes new spring goods and Easter silk at H. A. Moffitt.
J M Millikan will wed Miss Mabel Tuck of Durham today at 5 PM in the home of Mrs N P Robertson at 825 Park Avenue Norfolk. The couple plans a monthlong honeymoon in Cuba and Southern Florida and will reside at 415 Summit Avenue Greensboro after April 1. Millikan is an employee in the Review office.
