The city endured a second day of fierce bombardment with shrapnel and giant shells tearing through streets and wrecking buildings.
The Southern Manufacturers Association was in session yesterday with large attendance. The meeting noted that the association meets four times a year. Twenty days remain until the inauguration with a round trip from High Point listed at 9.85. The Washington Street M. E. church ladies plan a valentine reception tomorrow at Mrs. D A Stanton's home. A silver offering is noted, and next Wednesday the United Daughters of the Confederacy will hold a white sale at the Manufacturer's Club.
Guilford County commissioners plan a $200000 court house project with High Point contributing 40000 as its share of county taxes. Supporters argue Aycock county would manage its own affairs, improve courts and jails, roads, and schools, and advance prosperity, while critics fear tax burdens.
On Wednesday night Chickasaw Tribe No. 32 will hold memorial services open to the public. Hon. D. L. James of Greenville delivers the principal address, with Roy C. Flanagan, incoming Great Sachem and Greenville postmaster, also expected. Music by a mixed choir. Proceedings begin 7:45 P. M.
Mrs. H. F. Stamey who broke a limb ten days ago shows satisfactory recovery according to doctors. She remains at the home of her daughter Mrs. H. F. Hoffman on South Main Street awaiting further improvement.
A North Carolina editor who summed up his business for 1912 wins the prize for the review of the year. It lists numbers for failures and successes including being broke 361 times and paid delinquents 28 while unpaid 1,136. It notes money on hand at start $1.47 and ending fifteen cents.
A horse rushed through Greensboro yesterday hitting a large plate glass pane in the Humphrey Building. The incident caused immediate consternation among onlookers but no major injuries were reported. Authorities responded and the horse was subdued without further incident.
The Third Assistant Postmaster General warns that newspapers sent to subscribers more than one year in arrears cannot be mailed at the newspaper rate unless renewed with payment or a bona fide promise. Readers behind by a year or more are urged to settle to avoid loss of delivery.

Calvin Ozment, a near centenarian and the oldest Confederate veteran in the county, died at his home near Battleground after a short illness.
