The community mourns Mrs Sophronia Augusta Hearne Milton wife of Col D H Milton who died after cancer of the stomach. Born near Albemarle NC October 8 1847 she leaves husband three children and many friends. Funeral held at Washington Street M E Church with wide attendance and many floral tributes from across the state. The Red Men and other orders honor her memory as pallbearers and resolutions note her longtime charity and Christian life.

Atlanta police report J A Applebaum, a Chicago traveling man, shot dead in a local hotel. His widow Mrs J A Applebaum is jailed pending grand jury investigation as she claims she did not kill him. The case echoes earlier Grace scandal involving Daisy Opie Grace.
